I have been here many times. My parents actually almost have VIP status since they come so much. The food is always great. The prices however have slowly increased over the years to make it a overall poor value. The service seems to have gone down hill with the new ownership. The owner's and servers no longer care about their customers. They even go and outright lie about their promotional specials. Evidently if you spend 170 plus at lunch and the receipt says it is good for a lobster noodle at dinner, since it is over 100 spent, they still cheat you by circling the lower cost promotional

First time here. My good friend invited me to try this place out. Very friendly staff, quick to bring out food and reasonable price for the quality. The dim sum is very good quality here. They have a big seating area and they follow covid protocol doing temperature checks at check in. Great experience overall!

Best dimsum in Oakland, no contest. Very consistent and tasty. I especially love their beef bao, like a stew almost inside a fluffy bao, I just cant remember what it is called. My only problem is that they mix up a few items sometimes when I order to go, or forget something, but its partially my fault because they ask me to double check and I dont notice until later. Still really great place to go though and nice people.

This restaurant reminded me so much of my trip to Hong Kong. The restaurant was ornate and expansive with many patrons dining on dim sum. Most of the customers were Chinese, so we knew we were in the right spot for authentic dim sum. Though I noticed many tables with laminated menus that included photos of the dishes, we were given an iPad from which to place our order.
Our meal included stir-fried soy sauce noodles, Berkshire dumplings, spicy dumplings, shrimp & chive dumplings, roast pork spareribs, and eggplant and mushrooms stuffed with shrimp. The food was spectacular! Though the servers

Great dim sum for a reasonable price. I grew up in Hong Kong and the dishes here tasted authentic to dim sum in HK. Highly recommend the salted egg yolk pumpkin. The mango pig dessert was so cute too!

I was here two days in a roll. We had dim sum lunch on Saturday. The food was average. Service was acceptable. We had four people in our group, we arrived at 1 pm and we were seated at 1:30 pm. We ordered sea bass right away, it took over an hour to get it.
We return for two Buddha jumps over the wall on Sunday. We noticed the dry Scallop was not in the soup and asked the server, she ignored us and unwilling to check it out for us. The service was unable, we paid full price and expected to get all the ingredients listed. The food was average only.

This was an awesome find! Don't let the three star review deter you, it's wonderful Cantonese style and dim sum.

We got the ma po tofu with shrimp which was amazing and less spicy than the typical Szechuan style . The Mongolian beef was also very good and tender. For dim sum we got shanghai style dumplings, pan-fried pork buns, and shu mai, all of which were wonderful.

The server was very friendly and helpful, and they brought out some awesome complimentary purple rice sweet soup.

Highly recommend and will be back to try the seafood and the expanded dim sum menu at lunch.

This place is legit for both dim sum and Cantonese dinner. The food here is made with quality and care, and the service here has impressed us. At the end of our dinner they served us house-made almond cookies. Would highly recommend this place for both a dim sum lunch or an authentic Chinese dinner.

Usually no wait and we get seated immediately. New tablet ordering system is pretty efficient. I like that there are images on it so you can see what you are getting. Can't really go wrong with anything here, it's all good. The food comes relatively quickly too which I like.

Came here for lunch today with my parents and 6 year old nephew. There was a wait of about 20 minutes when we arrived and a small crowd waiting outside. When we went inside to use the bathroom we saw there was space in the special tea room and were able to get a table right away. They charge $3.75 tea per person to use that room but it was worth it cause we were really hungry.

Our favorite dishes were the salt and pepper fried squid, shrimp rice crepe, soy sauce stir fried chow fun, piggy steamed custard bun, pan fried stuffed chili peppers, fried sesame balls, and marinated olives with steamed

This is one of the best dim sum restaurants in Oakland. They offer some unique dim sum dishes, such as turnip cakes fried in XO sauce in a bibimbap stone bowl, stewed beef briskets served over sticky rice flour rolls in a bibimbap bowl. Their roast pork is superbly crispy. Their beef fried rice noodles are very well executed, rich with caramelization flavor.
Peony also offers a very nice, delicate Cantonese menu for main meals. Their fried crabs are exquisite, as is the smoked snow fish, fried wagyu beef.
They also offer a "one fish two styles" special during lunch time, serving up fried fish

Restaurant Peony is open again for sit down dim sum! They re-opened not too long ago, but at the start wasn't too busy. On this visit though, it seems like they area once again busy as usual, relative to COVID times at least.

Restaurant Peony is a mainstay in the Asian Cultural Center, as it's been here pretty much since I moved to the Bay Area decades back. I used to frequent the place pretty often, and while many restaurants around them switched out over and over, they're one of the original spots that is still here in this part of Oakland Chinatown.

One thing that I immediately

In my opinion, skip it. Undercooked pork pan-fried buns (one had a random shrimp in it?‍) it was so mushy and unedible. The soup dumplings were the best thing I ordered, but honestly those were no good. The texture of the shrimp in the har gow was rubbery and so yucky... And again with the shu mai, a weird awful texture and they taste fishy. Also tried the porridge and bland city. Extra bonus, they don't have chilli-oil, but they have that garlic chili paste stuff
Why didn't I look at reviews before I sat down I walked by and noticed there was a line and it was packed so I figured

We ordered the 盆菜,(大)Poon Choi for takeout. We called ahead and came to the restaurant to pick up the food and pot that came with it. We were instructed to heat it up over a hot pot stove and pour the liquid while it is heating.

This dish base price is $208, but you have to also pay $25 for the pot, which you will need to return. I am not sure what the exact instructions are, but you can return it the next day.

It contained 10 Sun-Dried Oysters & Scallops, 10 Abalones, 10 Shrimps, 10 Shiitake Mushrooms, 10 Goose Webs, Pork Belly, Cabbage, and Radish. It is meant to feed up to

I've been coming to this restaurant for about half my life. I've seen this place undergo multiple changes in management and all its ups and downs. I have mixed feelings about this place but this review is only in regards to the take-out dishes. My family and I ordered a large dinner for my mom's birthday. We got the Lobster Set Menu Special. It comes with a 6lb fried lobster with garlic, 1/2 soy sauce chicken, sweet & sour pork, sautéed pea sprouts, lobster tomalley fried rice, and lotus seed paste buns. Everything tasted really good and definitely worth it considering how big

Been here a few times. This review is based on this dim sum lunch visit.
Service: was very good, didn't see any unruly behavior. Very crowded during lunch and on weekends.
Cleanliness: good overall.
Food: good quality.
Prices: Expensive. We only ordered 4 items as you can see from the pictures. And the total bill with tips came out to be $48. This was already the discounted price because my friend is a regular.
