Medicare supplement Plan G is almost identical to Plan F. Once Plan G policyholders pay their Part B deductible ($185/Calendar year) - they have no other out-of-pocket costs, just like the Plan F. Moreover - the Medigap Plan G's monthly premiums are typically much LESS EXPENSIVE than the Plan F and the difference in premiums means that even after paying the yearly deductible, many people still save money by choosing Plan G.
Medicare enrollment begins three months before your 65th birthday and continues for 7 months. It straddles the month you turn 65 (3-month before and 3-month after). If you are currently receiving Social Security benefits, you don't need to do anything. You will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B effective the month you turn 65.
