Enjoy your meal from the comfort of inside our newly renovated interior or enjoy the tranquil beauty of a coastal view dining outside. The first Charlie's Chili opened for business on Balboa Island in the summer of '67. In 1972 Charlie's physical location moved from the bay to the Newport Pier.
Since 1988 Charlie's has been owned and run by the Farman family. Charlie's Chili is a Newport Beach Landmark and a locals favorite. It is home to the World famous Chili Cheese Omelet which is one of our customers favorite breakfast dishes. We are a full service restaurant and serve American, Mexican and Seafood.

Services
An Orange County icon in the dining community. See what our customers have to say about the quality of food and service from Charlie's Chili. I am planning my trip to Newport this weekend for Labor Day (coming from Vegas) and Charlie's is definitely on my list. Craving the tuna melt and cup of chili already.

I got their x-small chili and small clam chowder. Was pretty good and tasty. Though, chili was only warm and bit on the salty side. Clam chowder was nice and hot, but when I got near the bottom it started to get really salty and had some sand in my clams. I also got jalapeno cheese poppers and those were ok. They gave lots of ranch.

Every time we go to Newport beach or Huntington beach we have to go here. I always get the chili omelette and it is ALWAYS good. Service was quick and there's always one of the two same servers and you can tell they love working there...I'm surprised they don't know us by first names yet..haha. We only get to socal 2-3 times a year...but when we go, we go here.

Yikes! What a complete turnaround. Maybe Charlie's chili is the excellent place for breakfast but stay away at dinner time.
I don't even know where to begin.
Let's start with the wife's dinner. She ordered a French dip and fries. The fries look like they had been left in the fryer way too long. They were hard and burnt. To say she received a French dip sandwich it goes back to TV commercial where's the beef. The little beef that was in there seem to be burnt and left over.
The daughter ordered a turkey sandwich and a salad. Her french fries arrived in the exact same

The wife and I took a quick turn around trip to Newport. We were on the Newport pier and got hungry. The food here is good but I remember the fries the last time we were here were excellent! This time we had breakfast and it was ok but the view is fantastic! If you just want to hang out on the pier and have something to eat this is a nice hangout, nothing fancy. The service was good this trip but this place can get pretty busy on certain days and then with the madness things can get too crazy. So, it's probably better to just get something to go.

The country fried steak is not good, nor are the biscuits. They are store bought, not homemade. The gravy is so thick it's like the consistency of mashed potatoes.
The cheese omelette actually has too much cheese. And you need to ask for it cooked soft.
Still the best thing on the menu is the French Toast and the bacon.

We were so thankful for Amanda and the crew at Charlie's Chili here in Newport Beach by the Newport Pier. Like American citizens we were actually able to dine and drink at a restaurant despite Newsom's orders to shut down simply because they declared take out only and allow you use their "public seating" out front. I enjoyed a Steak + Eggs at 1pm in the afternoon with a Michelada, and my kids absolutely demolished their chicken strips and fries. Amanda was very warm and kind, and really made us feel like we were being waited for, although they were take out only. We&apos

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a chili snob. I've had chili from the finest restaurants, the most questionable of chili cookoffs, and made of some of the most interesting mammals. If there's one thing I know, it's chili.
I grew up in Dana Point, and surfed everywhere, including the Wedge up in Newport Beach. Ever since I could drive, I've been crawling the beaches, and have enjoyed Charlies Chili.
I can't believe I haven't written a review of the place yet!
I ended up at Charlies Chili early one morning before they opened so had time to walk the pier

I stayed at the Newport Hotel up the street, and finally decided to hit old skool Charlie's Chili. Its been open for 52 years. They serve bfast, lunch & dinner.
I ordered the chili & cornbread ($12 | inc salad), while my rellie ordered french toast ($12 | inc 5 slices of bacon and two eggs). The latter is not pictured.
The chili was excellent bc of the nice seasoning and good amount of meat. A large bowl is a very hearty serving. I could barely finish it. The signature chili was way better vs local Barney's Beanery, and on par w/ Rainbow Drive Inn on O'ahu.
