Services
The Downtown Veterinary Clinic is a pet-friendly clinic where clients are often greeted by pets of Dr. Ficarra and staff. As such, we understand the benefits of having pets in the workplace. We also appreciate that fitting a veterinary visit into your already busy schedule is not always possible. We are pleased to provide quality veterinary care for your pet at your workplace.
At our clinic, the goal is to work with you in determining the best course of treatment that is most comfortable for you and your pet. You have the rare opportunity of having both modern and homeopathic approaches working side by side. The practice of homeopathy, which uses minute doses of natural substances to treat ailments and disease, has been around for ages yet it is rare to find a veterinary practitioner in New York City.
Our Low Level Laser and LED therapy allows us a non-intrusive means to treat your pet for a variety of conditions. These lasers act by increasing production of cellular fuel and reducing pain and inflammation by increasing blood flow in the area of injury. Please contact us if you feel that your pet may benefit from the healing effects of laser therapy.
Regular health exams are key in detecting and preventing illnesses before they become life threatening. It is recommended that adult pets receive an annual examination, while senior pets be seen every six months. From new puppy to senior wellness examinations, our pet will receive a comprehensive physical examination.
Your pet's oral hygiene is important in preventing infection, both orally and to its organs, tooth loss and discomfort. Routine care can add years of pain-free living. During the examination, your pet's mouth will be assessed for swelling, abscesses, excessive tartar and odor to determine whether a cleaning is needed.

Dr Ficara has been my veterinarian for close to two decades. Always caring and knowledgeable. The staff is extremely personable, and a love of animals is uppermost in attitude and application of service. I can, with confidence, say that Dr. Ficara would be my veterinarian of choice, even if she did not practice in Chelsea, where I live.

The doctor and staff were so kind to me on my 20 year old Benji's last day January25. 2020. I appreciated the sign they posted in the waiting room "EUTHANASIA IN PROCESS PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL", thank you to the staff for making a truly devastating time a little more bearable.

I've brought my dog here a few times over the past couple of years. In the beginning I was pleased to find a friendly vet in the neighborhood. However, sometime between that first appointment year or two ago and now the service has gone down. This a long review but my key issues with downtown vet clinic are:
1. Disorganized staff and office
2. I can no longer trust the vet and her recommendations
The office and staff are completely disorganized. I called for an appointment for my senior dog who may have developed diabetes. I communicated this clearly with the receptionist.
I dropped him off

Easily the worst experience I had with a vet. I made an appointment for my dog to get a shot and told them that over the phone, but when I arrived they said the shot wouldn’t be available until the following week.
The moment the vet saw my dog he said he “would be a handful”. He took my dog inside for 5 minutes and said the appointment was over. The vet said he took him to the back but i watched him do everything in the lobby. My dog has had ear infections in the past and currently has a hurt lip, but the vet didn’t look at either. When the doctor was done he didn’t give an update on
