"Don't forget to make my 6-month checkup!" My 12 y/o daughter has never uttered these words to me after going to the dentist.
Due to a change in insurance, we went to see Dr. Greg whose dad was my dentist. My daughter would always go into freak-out mode whenever the word "dentist" was used, even it it had nothing to do with her. Thanks to Dr. Greg, this has come to an end.
My daughter was visibly upset when she walked into the building and later into the patient chair. By the end of the visit she was all smiles, giggling and ready for the next step in discussing braces.
