Animal M.D. Veterinary Clinic has been proudly serving Kettering, Oakwood and Belmont since 1957. We are a full service veterinary clinic for cats and dogs in the Dayton area. Previously owned by Dr. Darrel Apt, our clinic has a long standing reputation as a Dayton veterinarian with a friendly yet professional atmosphere, under the name of Apt Veterinary Clinic.
In 2005 Dr. Michelle Bahns bought the practice and changed its name to Animal M.D. Veterinary Clinic. After many years at our location on the corner of Smithville and Wilmington Pike, we moved into our new home in October of 2011. Our new home is more convenient, larger and now we have Lucky Dog Daycare.

Services
Dr. Michelle Bahns is originally from Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University in 2000. Dr. Bahns worked in Cincinnati for awhile then decided to settle down here in Dayton. In 2005, Dr. Bahns bought Apt Veterinary Clinic and later changed the name to Animal MD Veterinary Clinic. In her down time, she likes to paint, waterski and spend time with her husband and their senior pets Vinnie and George.
You've gotten your new ball of energy with four legs, the collar, leash, toys and puppy food, what's next? We here at Animal MD would love to help you on the road of puppy wellness. An examination should be scheduled as soon as possible to make sure your puppy is healthy. We will discuss a vaccine schedule, dietary recommendations and ways to socialize your puppy so your puppy can grow into a well mannered adult.
We know that finding out your pet needs surgery can be a bit scary for any pet owner. Anesthesia is now safer than ever and we monitor each and every patient from the time they are anesthetized until your pet is up and wagging their tail or letting us hear their cute meow. Pain management is a very important component in the care of our surgical patients.
Have you noticed a not so nice smell coming from your pet's mouth? It could be time for a dental cleaning. Oral health is very important for your pet. Bacteria in the mouth can travel to the heart, liver and kidneys causing illness. Fractured teeth can cause pain in the mouth which can lead to your pet not wanting to eat.
Whether it's pre-surgical lab work, a routine check of lab work for long term medication use or just a baseline, we can run many tests in-house with our Idexx lab station. If more extensive lab work needs to be run, we will send out your pets sample to Antech or Idexx to get a diagnosis for your pet.

I was very happy with our trip to Animal MD.
From the moment we came in the door we were treated so very well.
Lizzy my little furbaby was checked out thoroughly, had all her
issues addressed, those were fixed with lots of good information also.
Lizzy has found her new primary care doctor.
Thanks Dr. Boller, and the whole staff on Saturday... Lizzie approves!

Positive: Quality, Reliability, Responsiveness
I enjoy bringing my cats here because I can also bring my kids! Sounds strange but with recent restrictions it’s one less thing to worry about knowing my kids are welcome at appointments. Staff are always friendly and helpful and my cats receive great care.

My my 14-year old dog was suddenly dropping lots of weight, vomiting frequently, and seemed to be on her last leg. I brought her here, deviating from my regular vet, because my partner vouched for their compassion and care. Dr. Bahns informed us that she was developing ulcers because my other vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory that should not be taken with kidney disease...which my other vet also diagnosed. Due to this office, she was able to bounce back and 8s now pretty comfortable again. We know we won't gave her forever, and we are grateful that we have professions that know their stuff. Thank

We have been coming here for many years for multiple pets. Over the last couple years my older dog has had urinary problems and we keep having to go back every couple months for them to "treat" her. It is extremely expensive. They just keep testing her urine and putting her on antibiotics.
No resolution for a cure or anything else they can do to see how to prevent this from happening. Just keep come see us every couple months and pay.
They have my dog on very expensive prescription dog food that I usually buy online because the vet charges 50% more. Also the last time I had to pick up

Let me preface this with I don't go to this vet nor will I ever after I learned they left a lost pet waiting for its family unsupervised in their parking lot to die in front of their office.
A puppy was picked up and his chip was scanned at this vet's office and the family was called but the vet couldn't keep him nor could the person who picked him up so they left him outside the office (not sure why they didn't keep him inside, attempt to tie him down, or put him in one of the kennels they certainly had). He was the hit and killed in front of the office. Clearly these people

Dr. Bahns needs to have her license REVOKED! Never take your pet here, they clearly don't care about pets. A loose puppy named Buster was picked up and brought to this vet to have his chip scanned. The family was contacted to let them know Buster was there. The finder couldn't hold on to Buster until the family was able to pick him up. Dr. Bahns also did not hold on to him and keep him safe until the family came. She put him outside the clinic and LEFT HIM THERE ALONE and UNSECURED. This poor soul ended up getting hit by a car and killed. SHAME ON YOU, DR. BAHNS. You should never be allowed

This is an office in which the entire staff loves animals, and it shows. There is genuine affection and care evident from phone calls to office visits. I've even had them call to see how my boy is doing a few days after he's been sick.
My dog loves the people who work there, but going in for a checkup still makes him nervous. Every person who walks into the room where we wait fusses over him, praises him, even sits on the floor with him to help him calm down.
And the vets are wonderful - knowledgeable and honest, and totally respectful of people's different styles. I would no longer

I must say we have six dogs and cats have a great Danes in the past everyone at animal MD choice treats us like family and take care of our children as if they were their own. They counseled us when we lost one of our babies and they're always quick to follow up. I cannot imagine going to another veterinarian

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Boller and staff. They have shown us so much care, compassion, empathy - and all around great care for our pet. We went through a lot with our dog in a short amount of time, and even as new clients Dr. Boller called us once, after office hours, just to check on how our dog was doing with an issue post- spay (which was not performed at their clinic). They showed so much compassion and care during the most difficult time, the decision to have our sweet girl put to sleep. I can say this was the most heartbreaking time of my entire life, and Dr. Boller

I am very disappointed that I have to leave this review but I feel like I owe it to people who would potentially be bringing their pets to Animal M.D. I will start with the positive things I can say which are that I love their receptionist Valery and I miss her. She's incredible at her job and very friendly. Dr. Bahns is an amazing surgeon and if you can afford $1000 or more for a surgery then you should go to her for that specifically.
Now onto the negative things. My family and I spent thousands of dollars on what turned out to be unnecessary tests on my dog. I got frustrated and switched

Things have changed for the worse at Animal M.D. Veterinary Clinic. I have been a loyal cat owner for years and took all 3 of our cats to Dr. Bahns. I thought she was the best Vet I've ever known, maybe once she was. I don't know if family issues have impacted the practice, or what brought on the change, but the heart of Animal M.D. is gone. It has been replaced by prices that go up with every visit, a lack of caring from the receptionist to the Vet herself. She took over Dr. Apt's practice. He was a great Vet and I'm sure that he always put the need of the animal first

Once again they after giving them a second chance, they disappoint.
With our four rescue dogs all having special medical needs and for how much we spend there, you would think they could squeeze us in when our oldest dog steeped on something and needed to come in. Well, that again is not the case and when asking the snotty girl who answered the phone if she could please fit us in as he couldn't walk, she said, " Well you can wait till tomorrow, otherwise I may be able to fit you in at 10 but that will be 35 dollars extra". These two vets and their staff have no concern for animals
