Services
SEI specializes in structural evaluation. Our approach combines the fundamentals of sound engineering analysis with on-site investigation and judgment gained from experience. Structural analysis of building elements and systems is often necessary to identify areas of high stress, and the need for strengthening or additional support, as appropriate.
SEI has extensive experience in bridge evaluation and rehabilitation. Our tools include advanced structural analysis, nondestructive testing, and hands-on inspection. We look at the particular vulnerabilities of each bridge in its own setting, giving credit to its intrinsic strengths. We have consistently demonstrated the ability to improve safety, durability, and capacity, without compromising the bridge's historic integrity.
All SEI professionals are trained in the CalEMA Safety Assessment Program and meet the requirements for Federal Resource Typing Standards for engineer emergency responders. SEI performs onsite investigations of existing structural systems to predict structural performance during events, and recommends strengthening measures to improve performance.

We have developed a successful approach to investigation, monitoring, and retrofit design of all types of foundations in all types of soil conditions. Our experience includes underpinning, extension of basements, retaining walls, and increasing capacity for new loads.
SEI has extensive experience evaluating building faades of all types. Once a problem has been identified, SEI specifies methods to restore the faade's appearance, strength and durability. We routinely perform relative movement analysis to characterize the possible causes of distress such as decay, excessive loading or thermal and moisture shrinkage/expansion of materials - and provide solutions for the cause of distress.
