As a Certified Public Accountant working in both the public and private sectors, Dr. Farling felt less than fulfilled at a desk, working with numbers. She followed her heart, which felt most full when surrounded by her personal pets. In 1999, she graduated from North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and has gone on to practice canine and feline medicine exclusively.
The Southpoint Animal Hospital concept started with a casual conversation among a group of compassionate caregivers who wanted to create a safe, calm, and trustworthy haven for clients and their pets. These caregivers had worked in various animal hospitals but always dreamed of starting their own model of integrative care.
Southpoint Animal Hospital is an integrative, healing practice dedicated to the pets who bring such joy and companionship to our lives. We provide the knowledge, technology, and expert care necessary to enhance and sustain health and vitality for our patients. Through this partnership of pet guardian, veterinarian, and healthcare team, we provide a nurturing community that enriches lives.
Our commitment to Fear-Free practices demonstrates our awareness of the undeniable emotional needs of pets. Staying true to the basic tenet of medicine, Do No Harm, we will do our very best to enhance the in-hospital experience for both owner and pet. Fear, anxiety, and stress can often cause pet parents to delay pet health visits, and this can be detrimental to the pet's long-term health.
My Charlie had been having a tough time with his tummy for several days, and the other two vets in the area that I consulted could not figure out the problem. Charlie and I walked into SPAH simply seeking a third opinion. As it turns out, Dr. Doyle knew immediately that Charlie had an intestinal obstruction, and without hesitation cleared his schedule to make sure Charlie had surgery right away.

They care more about there bottom line then your animals health! You cant get preventive medicine to keep your animal safe with this vet, because they care to much about making money by holding prescriptions for ransom so that your forced to pay for unneeded and over priced wellness visits! This vet feels more like a scam operation then it does an Animal Hospital.....

Everyone at Southpoint Animal Hospital was very nice. Our Miniature Schnauzer was in for her 2nd round of puppy shots, Dr. Thompson and the team did a wonderful job caring for Charlotte. She answered all our questions regarding proper puppy care and training. She provided us with a lot reading material. Charlotte is looking forward to her next visit.

Our dog ATE a GLOVE! Quick and professional service at a reasonable price ($235). Had to rush to have the glove removed (via induced vomiting). We waited outside for about 30 minutes tops. When our 'bad' dog was ready, she was happy as a camp! Hmm, she is after any and everything. Please be careful! PS: She had the glove in her mouth, then found a morsel of food on the floor, and ate them both. Yikes! Lovely growing puppy, but very curious. :-)

We have been visiting SPAH for almost a year now, since I adopted my dog in March 2020. We love Dr Farling and always feel like we are getting the most complete, thorough and compassionate care. My dog has a severe fear response at the vet, and because of the curbside setup it has been hard to desensitize her to this. Dr Farling has been so… accommodating, either letting me come in for the beginning of the appointment (until my dog is sedated) or meeting with us outside so we stay under my dog’s fear threshold. Dr Farling explains the diagnosis and treatment plan so well and gives

I have been bringing my pets to southpoint for about 8 years and I absolutely love the practice. I even drive all the way from Raleigh now just because Dr. Elise and the entire practice are so wonderful! They are loving, supportive, give generous time and attention to each client. I have gone through tough loss of two animals with them and could not have asked for a better process. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

That’s the only place I have taken my ragdoll cat to in the area. They don’t push any services on me But rather give me all I need to know in order to make an informed decision. Since COVID, they have altered how they do things but the quality of care is the same. And they always say nice things about my cat to me, so of course that feels good. Price wise . . . It’s worth every penny. It’s all about quality.

Our family is new to the Durham area and just switched to Southpoint Animal Hospital. We have recently added a kitten to our family that has been seen exclusively at SAH and we have had nothing but the BEST care!! I cannot say enough great things about everyone we have come in contact with from the front desk, techs, nurses and the vets! We have never felt like our pet has been in better hands than we have with SAH. Our kitten recently got very ill and thanks to the wonderful and thorough care they provide, he is currently running around the house and back to his normal self. I couldn't be

I've had pets for many, many years and this is among the very best vet care I've experienced. I almost lost my new adopted cat last year to a sudden illness and Southpoint's exceptional clinical and compassionate care saved his life. And I love that they use an integrated wholistic healthcare approach. Highly recommend.

We have been coming to Southpoint Animal Hospital since it opened. We were new dog owners then, and hadn't met a vet we really trusted. Over the years we have worked predominantly with Dr. Lapham and Dr. Doyle, both of whom have given our dogs amazing care. Our first dog got old, had a lot of medical issues and eventually needed to be put to sleep. The vets gave us good, caring advice. They helped us make the right decisions for our dogs. I will always be grateful to everyone at SAH for taking such good care of our dogs and of us.

I have a service dog who has been seen by both Doctors Doyle and Lapham. They are excellent veterinarians, and their staff is attentive and professional. I live in Cary, and have visited many vet hospitals in the area....Preston Animal Hospital, Town & Country, Kildaire Farms Animal Hospital, and SOUTHPOINT ANIMAL HOSPITAL is far superior to all of them. Veterinary fees are expensive, but owners usually will go to the end of the Earth for their pets; Southpoint has reasonable fees, but most importantly, the vets do not suggest unnecessary tests or medication to increase the cost of the visit

Buyer beware:
I thought it was a good idea to switch my pets over to Southpoint Animal Hospital because the office is close to my new home. Also, I admire the work that Brian Lapham does for German Shepherd Rescue.
My cat had an abscess near one of her mammary glands that had gotten infected. I brought her to see one of the vets, Dr. Rachel Blackmer, who immediately did blood work, some of which didn't pertain to my cat's immediate needs. One was just to check her liver and kidneys which I knew were good, despite her age and would have refused been given the opportunity. The vet

The vet technicians and vets at Southpoint are wonderful. I can't say enough about the quality of care. However, the front desk staff could use some customer service training. I am not sure if I tend to catch them on bad days or not, but two different times I was treated like they didn't want to be where they were/I was interrupting whatever it was they were doing. Customer service is the most important thing a business should be on top of and Southpoint missed the boat.
The other issue I had with this practice is they are really busy all the time. Of course, that's because

Two 80lb dogs cost $500 together for a yearly wellness exam and 1yr supply of Heartgard.
What I didn't like: They charged me for samples! I'm pretty sure someone lied to me on the phone about what the wellness exam included too (the heartworm and fecal tests), so what was originally estimated to be about $170/ea (60 for wellness, 100 for Heartguard) turned into $260/ea give or take taxes.
What I liked: The exam itself was great, and the staff does a great job. Great facility, knowledgeable vets.
Bottom line: It's a great place for your pets, but if you're cost-oriented then

The first time was alright. They tried to push medicines on me I didn't need, but were decent when I said no. Still cost me a cool 200 dollars for a "pet exam" and one vaccination when moving my little guy to this new vet hospital, even with his completed vet history. When my dog needed minor, basic surgery, that was another story. The estimates were easy 25% higher than the area norm, trust me I got other estimates. Still, this was the closest place to my house and with a discount from my employer it came down to a reasonable rate as compared to others. In addition, my dog did seem

I don't have extensive experience with various vets. Prior to SAH, I had only been to the one in Carrboro Plaza, but I like SAH much more. Details below.
Here's what I liked:
- The building looks cool!
- My dog was a new patient and the whole process was EXTREMELY easy. I didn't have to do any paperwork whatsoever and they told me exactly what I needed to do/bring beforehand. (It wasn't this easy at CP)
- They have a little board where they welcome the names of all the new patients which was really cute.
- Check in was a breeze. Staff gave us attention immediately.
