Wisdom teeth are molars found in the very back of your mouth. These teeth usually appear in the late teens or early twenties, but may become impacted (fail to erupt) due to lack of room in the jaw or angle of entry. The most common type of impacted wisdom tooth is "mesial, " which means the tooth is angled forward, toward the front of your mouth.
When a wisdom tooth is impacted, it may need to be removed. If it is not, you may develop gum tenderness, swelling, or even severe pain. Impacted wisdom teeth that are partially or fully erupted tend to be quite difficult to clean and are susceptible to tooth decay, recurring infections, and even gum disease.

During your consultation, the doctor will review the treatment plan from your referring doctor, go over your health history, surgical history, examine the x-ray and area in question, prepare a plan for your care and answer any questions that you may have. It is important that you tell the Doctor if you have a medical condition that may be of concern at the consultation i.e.
Missing teeth over a period of time can cause your jaw bone to atrophy, or resorb. This often results in poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants as well as long-term shifting of remaining teeth and changes to facial structure. Most patients, in these situations, are not candidates for dental implants.
It may be determined that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to implant-supported replacement teeth, you'll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw.

I have nothing but great things to say about Fitchburg Dentistry & Braces. Dr. Gupta and the entire staff are friendly, knowledgeable, punctual and really make you feel comfortable during your appointments. I recently went in for an extraction and Dr. Gupta and his staff made sure my procedure went as smoothly as possible.I had no pain at all and healed up perfectly. The establishment is extremely clean and they cover all Covid protocols. I highly recommend Dr. Gupta and Fitchburg Dentistry & Braces for all your dental needs.

I have been to Fitchburg Dentistry and Braces twice, once for a cleaning, and once for fillings. Both the hygienists and dentist have been kind, professional and compassionate. I hadnt been to the dentist in nearly 5 years and I was nervous, but I had no reason to be. I was talked through every step of the cleaning and felt much better after.
The office is clean and welcoming and all the staff is friendly. This will be my dentist for a very long time.

Dr Giglou did a fantastic job with my 4 Wisdom teeth extractions. We did all 4 in one day and at 25 years old the consequences of not doing it earlier scared me. After Dr. Giglous work I experienced only minor swelling and pain and felt back to normal after a couple days. Definitely recommend his work!
