I am a licensed MFT (MFC #48506) in the state of California (where I have been treating clients since 2005) and my specialty is the intersection of trauma and birth medicine (for professionals and patients). Mental health can be measured by our capacity for meaningful relationships; our ability to seek and find connection; our ability to give and receive love; and our ability to be vulnerable and transparent with those who we trust.
All the mental "health" in the world does not matter if we don't have that. Mental health is about balance. We are only as healthy as our ability to be adaptive and in balance. Therefore, there is no "one size fits all" answer. One person may need more boundaries, while another needs more connection.

Our healing is a gift we give those we love. By healing old wounds and gaining insight we are more compassionate, more present, more gentle, more connected and more patient with those we love. As your therapist I seek for your healing, but even beyond that: I seek for your healing to make a difference in your most personal relationships.
When you experience trauma, your brain can get "stuck". It forgets how old you are, what year it is, and even sometimes where you are. Suddenly your body is reacting (pulse, breathing, brain waves) as if it is happening all over again. This can be very subtle: "You know I hate when you do that because my mom always did that!" or it can be a severe flashback, where you are suddenly re-experiencing the trauma all over again.
I offer professional consultation services for birth and mental health professionals both in-office and over video conferencing. Case consultation must follow the appropriate confidentiality or HIPAA laws applicable to your profession. Please gain client or patient approval (when required by your code of ethics) before seeking my services.
Registration is ongoing. Waitlists forming all the time. I am a CE provider for both The CA Board of Registered Nursing and The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. Up to 30% of those giving birth describe the experience as traumatic while 8% will go on to develop PTSD as a result.
