Metis Counseling is an outpatient counseling practice, serving individuals from ages three through adulthood. Founded by licensed professional counselors Melissa Wright and Nicole Rich, Metis Counseling provides play therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy to Kansas City's Northland and beyond.
Most of our counselors now offer the choice to do office appointments or telehealth. Services
The name "Metis" is derived from Greek mythology, where Metis was said to be the goddess of good counsel, advice, planning, and wisdom. This is my 11th year providing individual, family, and play therapy at Metis Counseling. I worked for Healthy Families Counseling and Support as an outpatient therapist, supervisor, and in-home therapist for 10 years.
Counseling services are provided to children ages 3 and up, adolescents, adults and families. Anxiety: Explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors that contribute to the symptoms of anxiety and work to manage or eliminate them. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: Process the effects of the traumatic experience through trauma focused therapy (TF-CBT).
Insurance companies typically reimburse providers for the mental health issues they deem as necessary. Insurance companies determine the number of sessions and length of treatment due to managed care. Typically, insurance will only authorize a pre-determined number of sessions. Client and clinician determine the length and frequency of treatment based upon preference and needs.

This will be my second year coming to Metis Counseling, and I absolutely love Nicole. When I first got a counselor I was very nervous and did not know what to expect but Nicole was very open with me and was able to relate and have real world conversation. I look forward to coming to counseling just to see her now. I got very lucky finding a counselor that I loved on my first try. She is so sweet and has the biggest heart. I leave counseling feeling like a new person because of the love and respect I feel while I am there.

I really appreciate Metis Counseling! Especially Melissa. She offered me wise counsel and choices on how to make decisions that are now allowing my children to thrive in a positive and uplifting environment! Horrible! You go there hoping for guidance and support suggestions & get nothing. No follow to a 1st meet or anything. The lady wouldn't give any eye contact when talking & when asked about some suggestions she said "well I cant really do that when being put on the spot to answer that question "........Ummm, what? We came to you for help & this is the experience?? Thanks for no help, but taking our money! Melissa was horrible!

My daughter and I have been coming to Metis Counseling for over a year now. We absolutely love Nicole! She has helped us get through some pretty tough times. If we have a problem after hours, she makes sure to get back to us as quickly as possible. My daughter feels safe talking with her and enjoys going to her sessions. I would definitely recommend Nicole from Metis! She is an angel!!
