Dr. William Davenport opened Pinion Veterinary Hospital over 30 years ago. A graduate from Kansas State University, he chose Reno as his home and has been sharing his skills in diagnostics and surgery since he arrived. His passion and caring for your canine and feline family members is the foundation for the philosophy of high quality care and respect shared by all our staff members.
Whether a pet is exhibiting unexplained signs of exhaustion or is sporadically vomiting, a pet owner will want to understand what is ailing their pet so proper treatment can be implemented. The following are many of the common illnesses that affect pets. Through understanding these diseases, we hope pet owners are more informed about pet health and the treatments that coincide with each particular sickness.
A pet's cardiovascular system is composed of a heart with chambers and ventricles, veins and arteries, just as a human's is. Because of its intricacies, a pet's heart is prone to various debilitating and life-threating conditions and diseases. Often, the sooner these illnesses are diagnosed, the more positive a pet's outlook is.
Canine Parvovirus (CPV) is a contagious disease attacking cells that rapidly reproduce. It can occur at any age but is ordinarily seen in puppies around 6 to 20 weeks old. There are two types of CPV, intestinal and cardiac. Intestinal CPV is most common and is distinguished by diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, and weight loss.

If you value your time go somewhere else. I started using them 1.5 years ago and have always had to wait at least 15 - 45 minutes before they get around to helping me, regardless if I'm 15 minutes earlier or on time. Today they decided to make me wait 20 mins before they called me and told me they didn't have enough people to handle me even though I had to make the appointment 6 weeks ago. Prime example of absolutely terrible customer service.

Ok, it's hard to fully evaluate a vet with covid keeping me out of the office, but pinion has been timely, excellent with follow up, friendly and affordable. Recommend!

I had an amazing experience here. My dog Rosie is dog-reactive and needed to be seen, due to excessive scratching. They are small, but oh, the service I witnessed. Rosie was whisked in a side door to a private room, which no other vet i called offered to do. (Damonte Ranch wanted to put her in a crate near other dogs for 1/2 day. She is DOG-REACTIVE.) I spoke to the actual doctor here, who took time to answer all my questions and tell me how cute my dog is. I witnessed 3 technicians assisting a blind senior dog into the facility while we were there, exhibiting great empathy (see photo). Everyone

I had a 2:30 appointment. Got my dog right in even though this was her first visit. No delay because of paperwork. The staff was very friendly. The vet explained everything to me. I will definitely us this vet again. I highly recommend this place.

After a treacherous experience with domante ranch pinion got our puppy taken care of with great customer service experience and provided excellent professionalism. Not only does domante ranch gouge you with prices pinion got us taken care of for a fraction of the price and way better service. I highly recommend pinion because they worked in an appointment into their busy schedule and really bent over backwards to help us. Definitely choose this clinic they will treat your animal and the owners with the highest regard!

They and other veterinarians are the reason why I will not adopt another pet again. They had me spending money on unnecessary procedures and not addressing the problem with testing that my cat needed. As a result she died. I do not recommend this hospital for your pet, hated I brought my beloved cat here.

I had called their after hour line to see if I can have my French bulldog come in. He is a new pet and has a possible ear infection. His ear is hot to the touch, swelling and he's make himself bleed by scratching at it constantly. All the vets either told me they weren't taking new pets or it would be 8 weeks. When I called around 7:30pm they told me it would be a two hour wait and wouldn't be an issue but that they do triage. I drove 30 mins to get there and called to check in. The lady who answered was quite rude and told me they weren't accepting non-emergent pets and I had

So unfortunate, because they've done so well with my puppy Boogie. But I just called to schedule an appointment for my elderly dog Buddy and the receptionist was very rude, she gave me an attitude and was extremely short when answering my questions. I could tell she was getting annoyed with my calling to schedule a simple appointment. I don't understand.... I get customer service isn't easy, I've worked in it myself for several years, but I am very patient and respectful to workers. This interaction was totally uncalled for.

I'm very sad to report that this vet did nothing to help me out to help me get my dogs prescription food. In fact I was told that "I could buy it anywhere" and "it's not a prescription food", (my personal favorite). In order to actually get my poor pups the food they need I am supposed to have Chewy.com confirm a prescription which literally takes seconds! Pinion vet does not get a kickback from Blue Buffalo so they will not help out. "It's not one of ours" is what I am told. It's a basic need just dog food, I didn't ask for anything crazy

Brought my rabbit in due to a baby in a pouch outside of the body. I asked for a removal of the baby because the rabbit can not get around to eat and drink. They came out to my car and told me it was a "tumor" that didn't need removed and they couldn't give me an appointment for removal. The brought out paperwork for costs that had nothing to do with the "tumor." The costs were over 900 dollars for things I didn't even bring my rabbit in for. I was involved in the massive fire and had to move my rabbits in a quick matter which caused minor sores on the feet. Because the rabbit had sores on the

I do enjoy Pinion, but I had an appointment scheduled out for a little over a month and a day before the appointment..They called saying they can't do it that day and if I can reschedule. I had to switch a few things around to be able to do it another day because it is an important visit. It all worked out..Just a little inconvenient.

Worst experience ever. Paid for a service I didn't get & didn't realize I didn't get it for some time. In bringing my animal back, they admitted they missed it, which I feel caused a new issue & they refuse to take responsibility for it. It's caused my animal pain & their answer is to do surgery ($1000+) with no consideration with their admitted error. But they did offer to refund me $15 off our $200 procedure. Insert middle finger here.

I took my dog here in July 2020 after careful review of vets in the Reno area, I also asked when I called if they sent reminders when my dog was due for any vaccinations or medicine, treatment etc and I was assured they did. I never received ANY reminders from them, I made an online appointment for vaccines on Dec 7 2020 for Jan 21, 2021 the earliest appointment I could get. I called Monday Jan 18 to confirm the appointment and to request a refill for flea/tick medicine and Heartworm. I was told by the receptionist he was not on heartworm medication, I was appalled that it had been 7 months

Had a very lovely experience! Called in Saturday morning right when they opened, Amy was very helpful and got us scheduled in for a last minute appointment for our dog Kira! Kira was having a week of vomiting and diarrhea. The tech was very nice and friendly. We waited in the car outside and got a call from Dr. Thomas within 35 minutes with the prognosis & treatment plans! He was very knowledgeable and mentioned has 40 years study of parasitic/bacterial infections, so he knew exactly what Kira was coming down with. The bill was fair & affordable and didn't break the bank. (We almost

Cannot say enough great things about this place!

Our dog was looked at and treated today by Doctor Thomas! She is absolutely amazing!
Doctor Thomas spent almost 30 minutes on the phone with me making sure I understood every aspect of my dogs health and the best ways to help him! She was extremely helpful and personable!
I will continue to bring our dog here for as long as he is with us!
Thank you Pinion Veterinary, our dog came home a happier and healthier boy today!

I believe it's important to know that Pinion is enforcing Covid protocols to the Max. You park outside, someone domes out and brings your pet inside. You stay in your car. The doctor will call you while examining your fur baby. You pet carrier will have been disinfected. How do I know if I wasn't inside? I could smell it!

Thank you Pinion staff for caring enough to go the extra mile. It is greatly appreciated

These folks have been taking care of our fur kids for as long as I can remember! From Priscilla the great dane with epilepsy to Marvin the cat who nearly lost a foot to someone's snare trap.
They have taken care of all our other animals too! Their care and compassion is unmatched and I'll never go anywhere else unless it's an emergency and they aren't open.
Great people.
Great staff.

Very pleased with the quality of service and the price. The staff at Pinon took great care of my cat during his neuter and my bill reflected the quote I was given. One of the best vets in the Reno area, I'm looking forward to being a more established patient here!

When traveling with dogs it's so hard to know who you can trust once your dogs are out of your site. (With Covid you have to wait in the car). Trusting your dogs are NOT manhandled once out of your car and into the building.

The girls were kind and carried my Italian Greyhounds in for a Nail trim. We also do drummel so their nails are nice. ;) They were kind and loving with the pups and so happy I went. ;) Being our of town I had to show proof of Rabies Shots (which I travel with) but I'm happy they do that so I know my dogs are protected!!! ;) Thanks Ladies I appreciate you taking

Picked up my doggie from having dental work. Good news to hear they only had to extract one tooth instead of 3, thought I'd save some money on my bill, ya no. They said that it took longer to extract the tooth than they originally estimated, so my bill was actually MORE! Apparently, me agreeing to pick my dog up later was concent to pad my bill for extra surgery time. They called me to give me updates on my dog's surgery process and when they told me that it was taking longer than expected and asked if it was ok to pick her up at 530 instead of 430, I thought they were being courteous

This group of winners is awesome. Our great dane Priscilla had epilepsy and dr Jackson did everything she could to keep her a healthy as possible. All the way up to end of life care. Dr Davenport took care of my Tori kitty when she declined rapidly in health. A tear in his eye when he inserted the needle and made her a healthy kitten again. Dr Tiffany seen Priscilla when dr j wasn't available to discuss quality of life and a medication to help with her anxiety. Dr J was instrumental when it came to saving Marvin's foot. I love this vet very much! My babygirl and I switched over from Klaich to Pinion for several reasons. Klaich was highly priced, not very genuine, over booked, and their only goal was to take your money instead of caring for our animals. Now Pinion, however; I have heard a bunch of great things about and wanted to try them out because I am very particular about who sees my girl. The Dr. and staff were so caring and very genuine people. They welcomed us immediately and fit us right into their schedule without a problem. We didn't wait long and not overly priced. Overall, this was the best experience

Great vet clinic. I've been here twice so far and both times have been great. First time was for a cut on the side of one of my dog's eye. Wanted to make sure it was healing properly. Second time was for another dog who keeps getting skin infections. Keep in mind I've been to another vet and all they did was give me antibiotics and steroids for the dog. Dr. Davenport actually explained that yeast was causing the infections and told me what needed to be done and what I could use to minimize the issue. It's been about a month now and the situation is much better and under control
