I am a Knoxville, Tennessee based, father of two, husband to an ER Doctor and fur parent to an amazing Golden and mischievous cat. I grew up in a town not far from Boston and moved to Tennessee in the summer of 2016, so that my wife could attend Medical School. My wife has since graduated and is full steam ahead in her residency.
Derek Halkett Photography is based in Knoxville and works throughout east Tennessee and the surrounding area. Derek Halkett Photography is happy to call Knoxville home for the past four years. During that time, I have worked at several of the top Knoxville wedding venues. There are several venues that offer a variety of different backdrops and styles for couples.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an amazing location and perfect backdrop for a wedding day. I am proud to be a Smoky Mountain Photographer and always enjoy working in the park. The Smokies allow for a variety of options for a wedding day. The park is the most visited National Park in the country, mostly due to it's central location and accessibility to a good portion of the United States within a reasonable time.
All engagement sessions are two hours in length, which allows for outfit changes and multiple locations. Sessions are carefully planned and scheduled at a time to capture your session in perfect light. I am here to walk you through the entire process and look forward to getting to know you and your significant other.

My husband and I are so grateful we hired Derek for our engagement photos and wedding day. He captured the most beautiful moments of our love, and we could not be more grateful. Derek was professional and personable from the first day I spoke to him up until our wedding day. Our wedding was postponed due to the pandemic, and Derek was very accommodating throughout the process. Our wedding party and guests complemented how personable Derek was at our wedding, and how in awe they were seeing our wedding photos. Derek was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was personable, friendly and quick to respond to wedding communication. Due to COVID-19, our wedding plans changed several times. Derek was flexible and easy going and even helped us find a beautiful location to take our photos, despite the fact that he lives out of state. The day of the wedding, he made us feel comfortable and relaxed while taking our photos and we were blown away by the pictures! They are stunning! I am so glad we have these photos to capture the love surrounding our special day. We received all the photos super quick

I highly recommend Derek!! He was so awesome to work with!! During a pandemic, Derek flew to NH to photograph our special day. He was always so timely with his responses and answered any questions I had along the way. He made the whole process so easy exp. when times are tough for us brides in 2020. His photos are absolutely stunning and he was the most caring photographer I have ever met. I felt like he got to know us and then he knew exactly what photographs to take. Our day was so special and Derek captured pictures that will last us a lifetime. We couldn’t thank him enough !!!!

We are so glad we had Derek with us to capture our special moments. He came up for both our Engagement shoot and our Wedding. He utilized multiple locations for each to provide us with a variety of photos to choose from which I greatly appreciate. He is personable which helped set us as ease when sharing intimate moments. Derek was FANTASTIC! He did everything I asked of him, and much more! He knew the perfect angles, when the pictures would be perfect for lighting, etc. He had us doing some awesome/sketchy stuff, and the picture turned out wonderful (follow everything he asks- you won't be disappointed!)! He instructed us on what to do along the way, and every single one of the pictures turned out amazing! Also, very personable!
