Our Head Veterinarian Dr. Howard Cohen, owner and director of Urban Vets, has more than a decade of experience working with exotic pets, and exotic pets make up about 15 percent of our clientele. Services
A yearly check-up is just as important for your pet as it is for you. Regular exams can help spot medical problems before they become serious. A yearly exam also gives you, and your veterinarian, a clear picture of your pet's overall health. During wellness exams, our veterinarians (located in the east village/lower east side) will discuss with you dental care, nutrition, behavior, diseases and vaccinations.
Our experienced veterinarians provide surgical services ranging from routine to advanced procedures including spays, neuters, mass removals, abdominal, reconstructive, and minor trauma surgery. Our surgical suite is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a fully trained staff to help ensure the safety and comfort of your pet during surgical procedures.
X-rays are very useful in diagnosing medical problems. If your veterinarian detects a lump or mass on your pet, an x-ray can pinpoint the problem inside the body. Similarly, an x-ray can detect foreign bodies or other masses that might be inside your pet's stomach. An x-ray can reveal serious medical problems or help a veterinarian decide whether or not major surgery is necessary.
Our office located in the East Village/Lower East Side provides pet boarding as a service to our clients. We offer full service, air-conditioned, indoor boarding facilities for both dogs and cats designed to provide your pet with a comfortable stay while you are away on business, vacation, or an emergency.

I was given a kitten found in a parking garage. I am not a cat person, but my daughter fell in love with her. We didn't known anything about cats let alone kittens. Urban pets Animal Hospital staff was so informative and super sweet. I was told it was a girl and was 5 weeks old. They informed me about pet insurance and how to care for her. I am forever grateful to them and my new addition to the family.

God bless these guys 💕💕! They are simply the BEST in the city! In May my cat needed emergency surgery, -we were taking in IMMEDIATELY 🤩🤩!( Blood tests- right away, ultrasound- next morning, and the surgery was done the same day!!!,
Extremely fast, with compassion, urgency, absolutely professional, super- caring and accommodating- all your beloved pet could possibly need at the moment!😹😹😹.

I was with Urban Vets for 10 years with my baby Mischief. The staff always treated Mischief kindly and I can tell they cared about him. Unfortunately I had to put my baby down a month ago but even in his final moments I knew they loved and wanted the best for Mischief. They feel like family here and never once did I doubt them or did they even make me feel uneasy. I don't think i can ever get another dog because Mischief is irreplaceable but I would use their services all over again if I had to. Thank you for ten amazing years!

Everyone here is so sweet and helpful! My dog has some behavior issues and gets very anxious when going to the vet. They are always super understanding and try their absolute best to make him feel more comfortable. They are also extremely patient with us and will always take the time to answer all my questions. Highly recommend!!

So disappointed in this veterinary office. Second time I went and waited over 45 minutes for my appointment. They never have printer to supply me with physical copies of my medical records OR my itemized receipts/bills, and seem completely unphased by their horrible customer service and care. I swear half the time they charged whatever they pleased. Wouldn't even send in script for heartworm/flea preventative care and had to call another vet. Will never go back and do not recommend. Try 1st Ave vets instead.

One word about the staff here, Superb. I Had an emergency and needed an appointment urgently and thee entire staff was super sweet and accommodating. DR.Howard was thorough and took care of my Dachshund Zhanna right away Elvin was extremely helpful in getting us more medication that was needed and also last but not least Stephanie for being able to accommodate us and get us an appointment as soon as possible. I highly recommend Urban Vets!

Pass 14 yrs I bring my 2 dogs to Animal Med center - but since my dogs are old now we figure to try something closer .
UTI on my 13 1/2 yr old dog / not major issue normally but i do have a few complaints I like to be known.
1 ) I understand Covic procedures but If I'm sitting across 10ft away taking to Vet Tech & Dr. Cohen door is 12 ft away - since is my first time - he can at least open the door & introduce himself but I never saw / spoke to him .
2 ) Bill was $ 787.00 ok fine but after 14 days I ask if possible to extend the medication due to still traces of blood in urine

I have absolute confidence and faith in Dr. Cohen and his team members. I have always felt that he is honest, thorough and diligent. I feel very lucky to have found urban vets. I have a dog who is almost 16 years old, when he was much younger I used to take him to urban vets, then I moved to Long Island for a few years and came back to urban vets- What matters most is that your pet is taken care of and comfortable, and that is what you get with Dr. Cohen and his staff.

This facility is the absolute worst with customer service not to mention the way they treat animals when they believe no one is watching them. I seriously need everyone to be concerned about their beloved pets before they come here. My sister and I had spent THOUSANDS of dollars on our cat who is sadly very ill. They snatched the cat in her carrier scaring her and had the audacity to speak to my sister in a demeaning manner with an attitude. I feel so lucky to have found Urban Vets! I called many vets in NYC looking for affordable dental care for my cat and Urban Vets had the most reasonable price by far. They communicate very well about pricing and what is to be expected. Everyone I met was so kind and understanding of the anxiety I felt about having my cat put under anesthesia. It is so clear how much the people here love animals, I appreciated that they called the day after the procedure to check in on my cat. I highly recommend!!

BEST VET IN NYC! Hands down the literal best group of people to care for your animal in the whole of nyc. I have been bringing my French bulldog Milo here since day one and Elvin, Dr Cohen and whole team have been a dream. Honestly I cannot thank these people enough. Through a sassy dog that needs his nails cut, boarding over the weekend, puppy shots and neutering, Urban Vets is the best!!!! You're silly to not bring your loved pup here!
