Bringing your pet to one of our veterinarians for a physical exam is the smartest and easiest way to keep them healthy. Exams allow our veterinarians to detect problems and diseases that might go undiscovered otherwise, including heart murmurs, tumors, enlarged organs, cataracts, ear infections, ear mites, dental disease, skin issues and allergies.
At Academy Animal Hospital, our goal is keeping your pet happy and healthy. Thanks to modern diagnostics and our on-site laboratory, we're able to do just that for sick and injured pets. Diagnostic imaging allows us to examine your pet's internal organs and body systems to better diagnose their conditions.

Dr. Lewis saved my cat's life at 3 yrs old - now 14, he's still doing fantastic. I had taken him to 2 previous hospitals which were exorbitantly expensive and did not fix his blockage problem (1 hospital suggested he may have to be put to sleep, the 2nd one wanted to do a Perineal Urethrostomy- and I almost let them do it, thank god I took him Dr. Lewis instead! Cannot imagine how that procedure would've brought down his quality of life, disfiguring him when it was not necessary..!!) My cat recovered quickly and amazingly after Dr. Lewis treated him! It truly felt miraculous and I'm thankful to

The staff at Academy Animal Hospital is top notch! We took our pig, Josie to get spayed and they were so caring and provided so many details about the surgery and her aftercare. They do walk ins and emergencies so you might have to wait upon arrival but it is SO worth it! We drove almost an hour to get there and I would do it again in a heartbeat. So glad my large animal Vet referred us to Academy!

I called in advance and asked them when they were accepting new patients. The front desk gave me the date and told me to come in NO APPOINTMENT.
I got there on Said date and called them to let them know we were new patients and we were outside.
The individual who answered the phone said that they were NOT seeing new patients buy to come to the door and fill out some paperwork.
She also sounded as if I were bothering her.
After completing the paperwork.... they had me outside waiting for a good 45 mins. So I left. About 30 mins after I got back home I received a call ( much friendlier this time

I first went here in an emergency with my very sick senior cat a few months ago. I called around to several places and no one could see her on short notice. Thankfully I found Academy Animal Hospital and they said I could bring her in at that moment! I was a bit put off by the lack of parking and curb appeal, but was immediately put at ease once they came out to chat with me. Everyone was so kind and gentle and Dr. Lewis was amazing! Not only did he help her, but was so down to earth and only did the work that needed to be done. It was the first vet I've ever seen where I didn't feel like I was

I've only been here once. They were kind enough to see my 17-year snuggle buddy in his time of need. It was a sad day, but the doctor was compassionate & Ashley was very kind. Thank you for helping me to ease Rusty's pain & send him on his way. Farewell, old friend. You will be missed & remembered. 💝

This is hands down the BEST walk-in vet clinic I’ve EVER experienced. Yes, sometimes they are busy (it is a walk-in, folks!) but both times I have gone to them, I’ve been in and out within an hour! Dr. Lewis has been WONDERFUL with both my senior cat and my senior poodle! He will walk you through your options in a very reasonable, reassuring,… cost-effective and non-judgmental manner! The staff is kind and friendly, and what could have been just another traumatic vet experience for someone struggling to make ends meet mid-pandemic was a WONDERFUL experience. I highly recommend

Next we will be taking our other 2 fur babies in for check-ups and shots. We always offer Dr Lewis extra money for taking out of his very busy schedule but he does not accept. He loves what he does and does it well

I usually have good experiences here. I arrived and was given a number to call to schedule an appointment. I made 10+ calls and not a single time was the phone picked up. After about 45 minutes, I decided to leave and look for another vet. They were definitely busy, and I think too busy to take me and my cats health into consideration. I wish there was a way of scheduling appointments. The conditions outside are too dangerous to wait as it is 90+ degrees F and there are multiple cars idling with exhaust blowing.

My cat paced and cried and yowled before using the litterbox, which is abnormal. My normal vet could not see us (they were fully booked) and advised I find a clinic who could see him ASAP to rule out a blockage. Dr. Heilbron was able to see us immediately. Although I felt bad having to send my cat in by himself (due to necessary COVID-19 precautions), the vet and staff kept me reassured and updated via phone throughout the visit, and were upfront about costs before the exam and treatment. Dr. Heilbron diagnosed the problem right away, and patiently answered my many questions. Today, my cat is using

My cat had been vomiting for 3 days at least twice a day. I thought it was a hairball but didn't see any. I tried everything to get him well but had no luck. I called my regular vet and they were booked up. They referred me to this awful place. Due to the problem with Coronavirus I wasn't allowed inside which I did understand. After about 45 minutes they took my cat back. In a short time the doctor called with questions and told me the blood work would be $330 which I did gripe about but knew it was necessary. She called back to say he wasn't corporating and they would need to sedate

No one says hello or sign in, etc when you come in. Clientele increasingly menacing inner-city who would rather beat you up than look at you (this happened to me). Only one vet on weekends when waiting rm packed with pit-bulls.They prescribed milk for a kitten with diarrhea, prescribed dog food for my cat, had a cat return wk after wk for over a… year for an auto-immune which could have been cured in a few hrs with steroids, and when they want to be obvoxious, they report you to Animal Control on a fake reason.Plenty other vets. Don't go to Academy.on Belair Rd.

I am a huge helicopter mom when it comes to my golden retriever, Riley, and I can always count on Dr. Lewis and Dr. Heilbron to not only provide the best care for Riley but they explain everything to me that is going on so I can be a better advocate for my pet. The front desk staff are all so nice and helpful, Riley can be a bit difficult when it comes to actually getting into the front door for his visit and they always happily help me scoot him in. Dr. Lewis is what I consider and old school vet (the best kind), he gets to know each of his clients and doesn't order a bunch of crazy expensive

I have been taking my pets here since I moved to Baltimore. Dr. Lewis and everyone who works there clearly cares for animals. Dr. Lewis has always provided me with wise advice for all of my pets, calling for expensive tests or procedures only when clearly needed. He also once got my traumatized cat to eat in a minute after days of refusing to touch food.

This vet is just fantastic. We brought my previous dog here for the vet care during his last year with us, and we brought him here to let him go peacefully and without any more pain when the time came. The doctors and staff have been nothing less than wonderful to my wife and I and Bigwig, who we miss terribly every single day. We have been bringing our new puppy to them since day 1 with him and either tomorrow or Monday we will be bringing him in to be neutered! I have nothing but the highest expectation for this to also be a great experience. This practice has a very "family" feel

I don't know if it was an off day for the groomer, but we had the worst experience ever. Our Cavachon was pretty matted so we were advised to go where there was a vet on duty in case he needed to be sedated. He came home quite nicked and weirdly uneven...his muzzle was shaved so short (and uneven), it was scraped and raw on one side. I had to bathe him again as he wouldn't stop scratching himself and massage him with olive oil and a bit of bendryl. I can accept that anyone can have a bad reaction to a new product, but not the cuts and overall terrible grooming. I hope this was highly
