Services
St. Paul Pet Hospital is family-owned and both our locations are located in the heart of St. Paul. We are long-time community members ourselves, and we love this city. You may even recognize our owner and veterinarian, Dr. Eric Ruhland, from his TV appearances on The Jason Show! At our animal hospital, we take a personalized, compassionate approach to veterinary medicine that treats your pet like the individual they are.
For the convenience of our clients, we feature many of our important hospital forms online, including the new client form. Keep in mind that we take time to really get to know you and your pet, so your first appointment with us may take up to an hour as we talk to you about your pet's medical history, lifestyle, behavior, any concerns you have, and more.
Telemedicine allows our current clients to schedule virtual appointments with one of our doctors to discuss health concerns that may not require a trip to the veterinary clinic. Yet, not all situations are appropriate for a virtual vet visit. So, when is veterinary telemedicine appropriate? You have questions or concerns about your pet's quality of life/hospice care, behavior/anxiety concerns, or diet/nutrition recommendations.
Are you looking for a unique opportunity in veterinary medicine where you'll work with a supportive, highly skilled team? At St. Paul Pet Hospital, you'll be a part of a young, fun, and enthusiastic group of veterinary professionals who love what they do-and are darn good at it, too. We are a family-owned, local veterinarian in St. Paul, MN, always looking to grow our practice.
As St. Paul natives ourselves, we are committed to helping this city thrive. We frequently donate our time, resources, and skills to many of this city's animal shelters and rescues in order to help pets most in need. Plus, as a local small business, we recognize the importance of supporting other small businesses in our community to contribute to the success of others.

Great until you actually need them. Then they wont bother to take time to see your Pet. Ive been a customer for over 6 years, I call with an issue and they cant bother to prioritize a sick and struggling pet despite being open for another three hours. If you think they care about anything other than taking your money...think again.

I have been taking my fur babies here for years. I love the veterinarians and how much they truly care. Definitely a little more expensive then other vets I’ve gone to in the past, especially because it all has to be out of pocket no matter what. but I don’t go anywhere else because I think my cats deserve the best.

I took my elderly cat here for a uti workup. She has had them multiple times before and I have taken her to different vets for this issue even during covid. I called to get her in urgently and the first appointment they had was a drop off appointment that was associated with an extra fee. Not sure exactly how much it was but I didn't care because I wanted her to be seen ASAP. I was grateful when they called me the next morning to say they had an opening for an earlier appointment that was regular and not associated with the drop off fee. When I arrived I had to stay in my car and wait for

We have a cat that needed follow up for a UTI and didn't have an established vet for him. They made an appointment about 2 weeks out and gave reminders by email. My husband took him and they had an established COVID protocol. The cost was very reasonable, especially compared to the insane emergency vet we had to take him to for diagnosis. The appointment was timely and he got a food prescription for prophylaxis. He's a real mean cat but they could handle him.

Would not recommend.
8 month old puppy was scheduled for an appointment, which required getting blood drawn (and nail clipping).
They couldn't handle him, so they rescheduled and gave us trazadone and gabapentin to give to him before the next appointment to help with nerves.
Following the prescriptions' advice, we gave the meds to our pup the… night before his next appntmnt. He started freaking out & his heart was racing. Quickly Googled side effects for gabapentin, which includes incoordination, coupled w/ the side effects of trazadone, which increases anxiety and aggression.

Hi everyone! I take my bunny Ramona to the Saint Paul Pet Hospital regularly for simple nail trims and also full physical checkups. Every time I arrive I'm greeted at the front desk with respect and a smile. The staff recognize me with Ramona when I arrive and are always excited to say hello to my fur baby! They take care to keep me updated on her condition and ease any anxiety I have about Ramona by giving lots of information and answering every question I have thoroughly with patience and professionalism. It is clear to me that every staff person there cares about the experience of their

We just moved back to St. Paul which meant finding a new vet. All the reviews for St. Paul Pet Hospital were amazing so we thought we would give them a try. We couldn't be happier so far! We have taken our little pug in twice now and both times and have been top notch experiences. It's a pretty small office located in the downstairs of what appears to be an old apartment building. Very charming. The most recent time I went in, there was a slight mix up with the appointment and we weren't on the calendar for some reason. However, they still got us in and I didn't feel rushed

The St. Paul Pet Hospital is such an incredible clinic for our rescue dog. The staff are friendly and amazingly adept at getting our anxious dog to relax for her exams/vaccines. Dr. Käri is our go to veterinarian- she treats our dog with respect and makes her feel at ease. The clinic itself is beautiful and has ample free street parking as well.

Wish I could give ten stars. We've since moved out of state and have contacted St. Paul Pet for help obtaining our dog's records, questions, etc. They are always just as professional, speedy and kind as ever, even though we aren't paying clients anymore. Thanks, St. Paul Pet, for your complete dedication to customer service and exemplary vet care for our beloved pets!

I thought I had an emergency situation on my hands and after a quick search I found this place. I believe her name was Katie asked me a million questions about my sick kitty. She concluded and made me feel confident a few non painful lumps on my cats tummy would be fine to wait a few days so I wouldn't have to pay for an emergency visit. 3 days later I noticed the lumps were way smaller, but figured I'd go check them out in case.
The receptionists as soon as I walked in made sure I parked in a correct spot so I wouldn't get a ticket. I made the appt for 3pm and didn't have

Came to St Paul Pet Hospital after adopting a very cute, very grumpy looking Persian cat from the Eau Claire humane society because 1) I lived nearby at the time, 2) they had great yelp reviews, and 3) offered a free first visit for newly adopted pets. Everyone from the secretary at the front desk to the veterinarian was super nice and took their time to answer all of my questions and to make my skittish cat less terrified of the vet. We moved to Minneapolis so we no longer come here but I would highly recommend this place to anyone nearby. They also offer an interesting flat-monthly-rate health

Plain and simple no matter how big or small of an issue I may be having with my pet the whole staff has always been great. On more then one occasion they have made time for me when they are booked solid because my dog is having an "emergency."
Dr Eric is very solid and Dr Melinda cares for my dogs like they are her own.
Highly recommend this place for pet care!

Unfortunately, after a series of miscommunications, a very strong but bad recommendation (that I reluctantly followed but it gave my cat explosive diarrhea. I knew better but trusted them) -- along with that overwhelmingly awful smell of artificial fragranced air freshener in the waiting area, I decided this vet is not for me. How can they know what is good for my pet when they don't even know that breathing glade is not healthy for humans?
My new cat & I have moved on to another vet who is really good with my guy, did all his vaccinations herself with me in the room (I helped distract

I got my teddy bear puppy, Jax, on Sunday, SPPH on Thursday.... and what a great choice! First.. it's just down the street, so we get exercise going to the vet. Second: I walked in to the cutest, most comfy environment for me and my boy. Third: AJ ... I kinda just want to go have a drink with her! She took great care of Jax during his microchip, answered all my q's, comforted him when he was squirmy, and was just nice to chat with! Last: Dr Eric. He gave lots of info about how doggy meds had changed since my last dog, answered potty training and underbite q's,and had good

I can not believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! I had heard of Dr.Eric from my neighbor, who told me he had come to our house, the Cosmopolitan, on a Sunday to check out his dog Midas. What??? A house call on a Sunday!! Midas is an old man on his last leg but somehow Dr. Eric was a miracle worker and put him on some meds, and instead of Midas going to Doggy Heaven, he has been doing pretty good! The owner was thrilled!
Fast Forward a few months later and Teddi gets into Burrs and He bites me when I try to pick them out, and hes coughing now like he has something in his

I can not recommend this place strongly enough! We recently got our first dog, Nani, who is a italian greyhound x whippet. We had done a fair amount a research on the breed before adopting her, but still had a ton of questions. Dr. Eric thoroughly answered all of our questions and even gave us some extra advice surrounding the breed, which he knew a lot about since he has a whippet.
Nani's foster mom had warned us that she is quite the drama queen and hated the vet. We did not bring Nani to the vet that the foster mom had brought her too just because it wasn't as convenient as Saint
