Counseling can help you face these challenges and find a sense of inner peace and satisfaction. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wilmington, NC who specializes in evidence-based therapies for anxiety, depression, and general adjustment to life's stressors. I work with both adults and adolescents to provide a proven & professional manner in addressing each person's unique circumstance.

My therapeutic approach is tailored to each individual's needs, with a focus on self-acceptance & courage to make the small changes. So you want to change, and you think therapy will help. It can, and very often does. Psychotherapy can be useful to help guide someone on this journey. Therapy provides a non-judgmental space to take an honest look at not only what someone wants to change, but why and how it matters.

Having a safe place without judgment to focus on difficult issues, can be the growth spot for change. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma Specialist who specializes in evidence based therapies for anxiety, depression and general adjustment to life's stressors. I have an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a Masters in Social Work from East Carolina University.
I primarily use cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches to therapy; however, therapy is most effective when tailored to meet the needs, strengths and goals of each client. I will often make use of various therapeutic techniques in order to best help each client make meaningful, positive life changes.
Depression is a persistent sad mood with loss of interest in activities causing life to become unmanageable. Postpartum Depression: More serious than the "baby blues" this involves overwhelming and life-altering feelings of sadness, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. Seasonal Affective Disorder: The onset of depression during the winter months when there is less natural sunlight.
Trauma is a powerful emotional response to a distressing event (war, accident, death of a loved one, abuse/neglect). Often people experiencing traumatic stress continue to have emotional and physical symptoms for many years after the event has concluded. There is a misunderstanding that trauma only results from harrowing events.
Below is an array of frequently asked questions for those curious if professional counseling and therapy is right for them as well as learning about my candid approach with patients. Many people are ambivalent about seeking therapy. This is normal, as the process of finding a therapist can be overwhelming.
