I placed a DoorDash order from here to work. I was really craving Indian food. I also like it when I can eat vegetarian. I decided to order from here and I was a little nervous because there are some mixed reviews but I was super happy. I got the paneer butter madala...it was great. I got some sort yellow dhal thing and it was a great too. I ordered four things and I was really happy with everything I highly recommend giving it a try. It was packaged very well also.

I was really craving masala dosa and ordered a few items from here: Masala dosa (comes with sambar and chutney), idli (also comes with sambar and chutney), and out of curiosity, idli Manchurian. I used to eat fried idlis as a kid in India so I thought it would be similar but in a nice spicy sauce.
Masala Dosa: This was delicious, very mild, the potato filling was nice and creamy.
Idli: Soft,fluffy. Tasty
Idli Manchurian: Just no, the sauce was just way too sweet and tasted like straight up ketchup
Coconut chutney: I was actually disappointed. It was very under salted and lacked flavor. I didn

I was craving Indian cuisine while I was in Tempe, Arizona over the holidays 2021. Thankful that I was in walking distance from my hotel to this Indian restaurant, so I didn't have to call an Uber.
My biggest surprise was the fact that this restaurant did not serve Naan, a famous bread that is usually served in many Indian restaurants, at least in the ones I've been to. I was shocked but decided not to panic when deciding on what to order. I arrived here on a nice Thursday evening around 6:30pm, the evening before New Years Eve. The restaurant was buzzing with activity while there were

I was expecting a tasty meal and good experience based on reviews but after my trip there, I will never be going back. First of all, the restaurant is dirty! The floors have debris thrown all over and dont even think of using the restroom. Looks like it hasn't been serviced in weeks. That was certainly an appetite killer. I was so hungry I decided to press on. I had the gobi manchurian and veggi noodles. The Manchurian is listed as a main dish not an appetizer. Yet, they brought that out at least 10 minutes before the noodles so it was nice and cold by the time the noodles got there. The food

Dosa was good but sambhar was total game buster. With the name like udupi you expect proper South Indian taste. Sambar had no sweet sour and spicy balance like a perfect sambar. Looks like kitchen ran out of tamarind. Service was ok as the place was empty as it was weekday. Aloo for dosa filling was pretty lame. Overall not impressed will never go back

Dined in yesterday , Walking in found the floors to be sticky, given a glass of water with lipstick still visible , found a roach walking on the pony wall behind my table (yuck), bathrooms are nasty and stinky , lots of stored items in plain view and half hidden with dirty maroon curtains. Ambience is the worst for the money that you spend over there. 1 star is for the food which tasted good.
The entire restaurant needs a complete detailed clean up and sanitized.

If you're looking for some bomb vegan-friendly vegan cuisine, you MUST try Udupi in North Tempe. My go to is the gobi manchurian that's made up of cauliflower marinated with flour, sauteed with garlic, ginger chili and soy sauce. . They also have other incredible vegan options like Dosai, curries, and so much more. Go get you some

Historically here and other Indian restaurants had proven that they care more about serving non Indian families with a high priority (my theory is that the old school Indian mentality of under tipping leads to this, and that is the reason he got a back service because it’s understood that pickup orders don’t get much for tips). So the guy below (Brennan Clarke) doesn’t seem to make sense of his point in serving Indians first. However I’d agree with him that for the last 15 years I’ve been going here has not been a great customer service experience. Food was the best when Raja was the

Excellent service even when it was crowded.
The food was excellent. I had butter masala dosa which was great and all my friends liked their respective orders
Everything was correctly priced and not expensive.
Service was great too.
Saw a continues steady flow of family customers coming in. This place is ideal for family dinner out.
Only improvement they can do is light up the name board so that more people are aware of the shops presence.

We LOVE UDUPI!!!! Although it is is a weird area, the food is amazing. I never thought I would love a vegetarian restaurant but here I am- OBSESSED. I have visited on both week days and weekends and let me tell you- the buffet for lunch on weekends is well worth the price whereas the general menu price, I beg to differ. The food is amazing and I can't wait to go back.

Having moved here recently I was really looking forward to trying my first South Indian restaurant in the area. The appetizer (mixed pakora) was good - not too oily or salty. I ordered the uttapam for my main dish and I was completely disappointed. They hadn't fermented the batter at all. I've had uttapams at restaurants throughout the US and in India. This by far was the worst.

I am absolutely obsessed with Udupi!! I've been in a search for a traditional/ vegan/ vegetarian restaurant and can truly say this is the best Indian cuisine I've ever had!! Tops some of the places I've been to in places like Chicago or LA!!! I got the vegetable vindaloo and the vegetable samosas which is all vegan! Absolutely obsessed and if not a little dangerous LOL definitely going to be eating here at least once a week. True comfort food!!

Let me start by saying I'm sorry for the bad picture. We got our food to go and ate it at a park. Let me finish by saying WOW WOW WOW WOW. The flavors packed in this meal (I got the "Gobi Manchurian") were out of this world.
I'm not vegan or vegetarian but my brother is. We visited here because he's back in town and when he lived in Tempe he swore this place was the best. I was skeptical. I don't usually do foods without some sort of meat. But I'm going to be honest with you... I'll dream about this meal.
The cauliflower stuff has a super complex flavor in a wonderful way. Each bite was a journey

Udupi is legit! I haven't been by since covid, so this review is for the few times I went to their lunch buffet precovid. The buffet is all vegetarian, but you won't miss the meat. Everything is flavorful and delicious. It's one of the best Indian buffets in town. Also, the dosa....mmmmmmm. I don't live near Udupi, but it's worth a special trip!

Wow, love this place, the flavors and cook of everything was spot on
Got the garlic paratha and crispy goodness and flavor combination was excellent. Could really taste the garlic which I love.
Got the butter paneer masala and so buttery and delicious. The paneer was cooked perfectly as well. One of the best paneer dishes I've had.
Also got the chili and onion uttapam and it was just as good. I would have preferred it more crispy and "burnt" but boyfriend thought it was perfect. I do like my stuff extra crunchy and charred but that's just me.
Highly recommend this place

Oh.My.Goodness. Vegan heaven. Super flavorful, excellent portion, very reasonable- almost too cheap for its quality -delicious meal!!
We ( two adults) arrived mid afternoon yesterday to an empty restaurant and we were served very promptly. We would have ordered more, but the waiter ( probably one of the cook) was a little concerned , hahaha and stopped us. 4 appetizers and 2 house specials. We couldn’t finished all, so we took home leftovers, for our great delight today !!

My vegan friend and I decided to try this place for our weekly vegan lunch rotation. I ordered the avial (vegetables in coconut sauce); it was flavorful but spicier than I had expected. Good thing I ordered rose lassi to go with it, as the creamy yogurt drink helped temper the spicy sensation between bites; also, the rose fragrance of the drink was quite pleasing.
A few weeks after, I decided to try the lunch buffet. The selections were somewhat limited but satisfying; as far as flavors were concerned, I thought it was just OK. With the buffet you are given a dosa. Note that in addition to the

Spicy but not too spicy!! Dosa, like a crepe, is so delicious and not too oily. I usually like it plain, without mash potatoes.
There are many variety of vegetable curries to choose from. My favorites are paneer (cheese) curry, Chana masala (chickpea curry), and okra curry. I miss gobi (cauliflower) Manchurian (sweet and sour sauce?). The day I went in they had a ball of veggies Manchurian instead.
Rasmali (cheese+milk=dessert) is also my favorite. Their carrot halwa is also another delicious dessert. I finished my meal with hot chai. I like to add a little sugar in it.
