Major Magleashes Pub was recommended to us by a tour guide. We had clam chowder, mushroom and Swiss burger, cheeseburger, fries, and onion rings. We think, not positive, that they make their own onion rings. They were lightly breaded and delicious.We watched them make the hamburger patties. They were definitely fresh. This is a little off the beaten path and worth the little additional effort to go there. We're from Maryland, but would frequent the restaurant if we were locals.

If you want someplace that puts a ton of money into decor or ritzy food, this place isn't for you. But it is really good and super consistent. I've been coming here with my dad since I was little and seeing the same faces for decades and eating the same great food. The steak tips and chicken fingers are also cooked well and their shining star the seafood chowder is the best around. Seriously the best around. And it's tasted the same for as long as I can remember. Parking can be rough but it's totally worth it for good food that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

We stopped in while visiting Salem, and were happy we came. This is definitely more of a dive bar, which I like, because most of the other bars in this area were PACKED. There seems to be a mix of younger and older people that come here.
Drinks were good and they're very generous with the pouring. Our waitress Shannon was amazing! Super cute, super sweet, and gave us fantastic recommendations on where to go during our visit. Thank you!

This is the best dive bar in Salem and the place to be for great pub food and strong, inexpensive drinks. The steak tips, the burgers, and the seafood chowder are all sublime.
It's a small, simple joint full of mass locals and regulars, it's not a corporate restaurant so it's going to feel a bit different if you're expecting your typical average restaurant and bar....Also if you're out of state, definitely keep in mind that they don't allow out of state I.D.s..but guess what there are tons of other bars on Salem that do, and closer to the downtown area anyway.

Have had a great day visiting Salem, for our first time ever. To avoid the crowds and long lines surrounding Essex street, we saw this pub on yelp, further away from the crowds, so we walked 10 mins to get there. Once we get there we are carded at the door, an old man sees our NJ DL and said we aren't allowed in. "No out of state DL. It's policy"... despite the fact it said dive bar on yelp, we still decided to give it a try. Sad you wouldn't give anyone from outside of MA a try. We think Majors has the best pub grub in town for the money. The burgers are probably the best is Salem, big meaty and juicy, definately two-handers and the ribs are our next favorite. If you like your cocktails strong, then this is the place. Some may find the menu selections limited but the portions are huge, you won't leave hungry, and you'll still have cash in your wallet. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. This is a local pub with customers who have been coming back for years and not for the ambience.

First time here, saw good reviews... very displeased. No customer service, never checked for refills, food took forever never checked on us. Food was okay, but flavors were way off. Ice tea taste like dish water.
Waitresses just on their phones the entire time or talking to kitchen or bar staff... clearly too laid back of an environment for employees. Bathrooms don't lock, my boyfriend accidentally walked in on someone
