Born in Switzerland and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, Dr. Newkirk grew up participating in volleyball and track and field, and was named Sportswoman of the Year several times.

If this is your first visit, we will take the time to find out what matters to you most and work with you to gain a comprehensive view on your current dental health before we start any treatments or cleanings.

Periodontal or gum disease is particularly concerning to our Vancouver dental patients because not only can it cause bad breath but periodontal disease can also lead to serious dental problems. It is for this reason that Dr. Newkirk will begin your dental care with a comprehensive dental exam and then update your chart annually so that we can keep track of your gum and bone structure to ensure healthy teeth.

Dr. Lisa Newkirk and her staff are simply AMAZING! Their has never been a time where I have gone into the office and not felt part of the Island Family! A friend recommended Island Family Dental more than a year ago. (I had been going to a wonderful dentist in Gladstone, OR. Then Covid-19 happened.) Between the close down and the opening I managed to wear through a gold crown, chipped a couple of teeth and lose a few fillings. I know I'm a gift to dentists everywhere. Finally I got a bite to call Island Family Dental. Should have done this sooner. The first appointment was so thorough from start to finish. Covid-19 procedures were and are followed. Moved to Vancouver from Portland and was looking for a local dentist. My dental experiences at Island Family Dental haven been excellent! Dr. Lisa Newkirk is super friendly, explains procedures thoroughly, always makes sure that I'm comfortable, asks if I have any questions and does great work. The staff is professional and courteous. Plus, their dental chairs have massage rollers in them. It's a win-win :)

I've been going to Island Family Dental for at least 7 years now and I've always enjoyed it. Dr. Lisa Newkirk and her team are so friendly and do a wonderful job taking care of me. They take my TRICARE insurance so I reccommend them to all my military friends and coworkers. The front desk will go out of their way to send me documents I didn't know I needed for my unit. I look forward to my cleanings here, I lay back in a dental massage chair and watch tv while they work on my teeth. I genuinely love Island Family Dental and they make every visit worry free.

I was traumatized by dentists when I was younger, and having to see them was ALWAYS frightening. I have been to so many dentists - all were unsatisfactory. Until I found Dr. Yaeger. She has been absolutely terrific in dealing with and handling by fears. She is so kind and gentle and understands the need for the types and degrees of anesthesia needed for whatever procedure is done. Everyone there is wonderful. I've been a patient there for several years now and although I still dislike going to the dentist, it's not traumatic anymore.

I am a new patient to Island Dental. I had a cleaning and x rays. Then I needed 1 filling, on a cracked tooth. Booth the dentist and assistant were gentle. The spot where I had the shot was tender that night. The next day, I could not tell I had a filling done. Very nice staff and professional. I am happy to call them my dentist now!!

Dr. Newkirk and her staff are incredibly friendly and attentive to their patients. They walk you through everything they're going to do to ensure you're comfortable and aware. I've been going to Island Family Dental for about two years now, and recently my husband switched over as well. I have major anxiety going to the Dentist - but Dr. Newkirk and her entire staff make the whole visit much easier. Dr. Newkirk is thorough, takes her time to ensure any dental work is done right the first time, and has great bedside manner. Also, I really appreciate her getting to know me and my family - every time I go in she asks about my kiddos!

I have been a patient of Dr. Newkirk for a couple of years now, and I just love her and her whole staff. I have extensive work done on my teeth due to years of not going to dentists because every time I went, I had bad experiences. Not anymore! This woman is a magician! I can now actually fall asleep in her dental chair - something I never dreamed would happen! I have fallen in love with Dr. Newkirk and her staff. I am a brand new patient to her and already I can promise I will be a life long patient. Dr. Newkirk has a true genuine soul. She gets to know you and you feel more like a friend then just another patient. She is very gentle when doing treatment. Her and her staff walk you through everything as they are doing it. They are never afraid to check on you to make sure you are doing ok. I would recommend her to anybody who is looking for a personable dentist.

Love, love, love this dental group! From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave the staff is friendly and professional. The dentist was amazing with my 11-year-old. I need to update this review after a year of my treatment plan being implemented. Dr. Newkirk and her staff are just as fantastic as they were on day one. The thing I love most about this place is that everyone talks to you like a human being, not down to you. They understand you have a life outside of what you're there for. They're always very clear in their instruction and easy-going in mannerisms. I've joked that visiting here is like going to the spa for me (with needles.)

Great staff. Make you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Dr. Lisa is very kind & very compassionate about her work! She goes over everything she does & explains it very well. I also had my 4 & 1 year old get their teeth checked. The staff did very well making them feel comfortable. Also, they had great patience w my 1yr old who wasn't very happy about showing his teeth that day. One thing I personally don't like is the X-ray part, I have a small mouth & having to put the slides in hurt but that has been almost everywhere I have gone.. Overall, good experience!
