Janis is the founder of The Law Offices of Janis A. Carney, where she focuses her practice on a holistic approach to law, covering many facets, including Elder Law, Estate Planning, Alzheimer's & Long-Term Care Planning, Asset Protection, Medi-Cal planning, VA benefits planning, Trust Administration, and Probate Administration.
At Carney Elder Law in Silicon Valley, we are proud to define our primary practice area as "elder law." Although we will gladly provide estate planning services to persons of all ages and work on various types of cases, our work primarily concerns the elders in our community. As elder law attorneys, we bring a comprehensive approach to finding solutions to the problems faced by the elders in all of the cases we take.
Do you have an estate plan in place? Planning for the future can be difficult, but it is crucial to take some time to do so. Estate plans give you a fantastic way to protect your assets after your death and plan for your personal care in case you become incapacitated. There are many legal, financial, and emotional aspects to consider when developing an estate plan, which is why you should work with experienced professionals.
Long-term care planning requires a comprehensive evaluation of an individual's legal and financial situation as well as the creation of a plan to address current and future long-term care needs. Alzheimer's (and related Dementia's) planning includes all of these but also a plethora of issues and concerns that go way beyond the mere legal documents and dollars involved.
In California, probate court serves several purposes. The most typical purpose of probate court comes in the form of a probate proceeding, which provides for the administration of the estates of people who have died. Guardianships, conservatorships and trust matters, are also handled by the probate court.

I booked a free consultation with Janice. They call you the day before to confirm. I couldn’t call back because I have a job! But I texted and emailed after they closed. Next day (appointment day), no call. I messaged to see what happened. “Sorry we stay on a strict schedule she can’t call you now”. I messaged, it should have been retrieved in the morning. They said they were there at 8am.
Next try…I rescheduled for the following week. Time comes and goes. I message again. I finally get a phone call almost 25 minutes later. What happened to the strict schedule? I had meetings at that

After my grandmother passed, I needed to get information on how to become my disabled mother's conservator. I was referred to Janis A Carney by a former classmate, and what a wonderful recommendation she was. I was given a very timely phone consultation, and Janis thoroughly explained the process to me and what it would cost. Having to file a conservatorship would have been way out of my budget, so Janis provided me with some insight on how else I could apply for legal rights, and she was so kind and helpful throughout the whole process. Luckily I was able to handle everything outside of the

I think you can find a more responsive attorney specializing in elder law.

Most of the people in the office are very friendly. However, there are times I feel I am being pawned off to the next person and my issue is not really getting handled.

I've been a client of Janis for many years. I originally went to see her when my Mum needed help with her estate planning. After my Mum died I decided that as a single Mom I should get my trust started. Janis got everything I wanted into the trust and also addressed my end of life wishes. I have nothing but good things to say about Janis and her team. They are professional, compassionate and nice!

I found Janis from a friend, and found her to be the right person for the answers to my questions. She helped with my problems, and sent me in the right direction. She really knows her stuff. Thank you Janis.

Janis Carney helped guide me and my best friend through the process of preparing our legal documents to ensure our wishes would be met either due to serious illness or death. These were not cookie-cutter documents but documents geared toward our individual needs. And Janis guided us with her extensive experience and knowledge even after the documents were drawn up. We were not pressured to sign anything until we fully understood the legal and personal implications--even to the point of making sure any pets were taken care of. I'm also impressed that we are not forgotten after we have completed

I was referred to Carney Elder Law. I called to find out if they could help me with my issue. I was screened by the person who schedules all of Ms. Carney's appointment's Barbara. She said My issue was something Ms. Carney could help me with, she could do anything! I thought that was a strange comment. She required me to fill out the necessary paper work before she could schedule my appointment and that she would email it to me. I never received paper work so I called to inquire. I received paper work 5 days later. I filled paper work out and emailed in. I didn't hear a response
