Active Release Techniques (ART) is a hands-on touch therapy administered by trained professionals to assess and treat soft-tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries that a practitioner will address. P-DTR is a revolutionary neuromuscular treatment method that addresses a largely overlooked system of the body: the proprioceptive system.

Carl has been working in the health, fitness and wellness industry for over 15 years. After completing his degree in Nutritional Sciences from Rutgers University, Carl started his career as a personal trainer and quickly moved up the ranks into management at a fitness club on a multi-club level. He enjoyed his work as regional fitness director, teaching personal trainers the value of education and client results.
Anatomy in Motion (AiM) explores the moving human body in the normal gait cycle. It is a comprehensive gait analysis system and movement therapy that addresses imbalances joint-by-joint and as a whole. Gait tells a novel of information as every joint of the body moves under a second in its cycle. Understanding which joints should be moving at each phase of gait allows a practitioner to understand where a client needs treatment.
Active Release Techniques (ART) is a hands-on touch therapy administered by trained professionals to assess and treat soft-tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries that a practitioner will address are repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia, and joint dysfunction.
Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex Therapy (P-DTR) is a revolutionary neuromuscular treatment method that addresses a largely overlooked system of the body: the proprioceptive system. The proprioceptor system gives our brain information about what's going on inside and outside of our body - it lets us know we're okay or if we need to adjust what we're doing to protect ourselves.

Musculoskeletal injuries often require a multi-modal approach to resolve them. Carl has developed a unique skillset which addresses not only symptom relief and functional recovery but also resets the primitive patterns in the body that get altered through our modern life patterns, activities and injuries. He is a highly skilled and effective practitioner. We are lucky to have him in the Bay Area.

I travelled from Europe to San Francisco primarily to see Carl for some long standing back, neck and hip issues. Within the groundbreaking technique that he practices, which has already helped me so much, Carl is one of the very best practitioners in the world and I was not disappointed. I have seen some serious, lasting changes in issues I did not believe could change so much.

Over the years, I’ve had both hips replaced, and two subsequent hip revisions, that left me with neurological damage that persisted after tissue healing causing me pain and limited movement function. With several of Carl’s P-DTR sessions, I have regained proprioceptor electrical activity to normal levels around the affected areas. The results of this neuromuscularskeletal therapy have been extremely valuable to complete my healing process and be able to move, walk, and stretch as normally as possible without pain or hindrance. I highly recommend Carl Alexander and P-DTR as a non-invasive treatment

I’ve had problems with my fingers going numb when I slept for years and the doctors I talked to were dismissive of it, saying that I was probably just sleeping on my arm. I had a hunch that my ulnar nerve was pinched and Carl was very expertly able to find the spot in tension in my shoulders that was causing it. His treatment has relieved my symptoms and he even explained everything he did and gave me advice on how to keep it from happening again. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a nervous system reset.

Carl's treatment has been transformative to my health. I've gone to him for a few problem areas that were inhibiting me from working out, and he has been able to identify the cause of the issue and greatly reduce my pain each time. He resolved shoulder pain I had been experiencing for six months in one session! Very impressed by his expertise and professionalism. Highly recommend!

Carl is a magician! I pulled a muscle in my back and after a few days of hobbling around and not being able to sleep at night, my partner made an appointment for me at San Francisco Integrative Massage.
After just one hour, I had a much fuller range of motion, my pain was greatly reduced and I was able to bend and walk more freely. Carl even gave me some additional exercises to keep healing at home.
Also, Carl is a very personable, kind professional. His space is clean and minimal (located inside StudioMix gym). His therapies seem to be a special blend of many things I've tried, but integrate

I went to see Carl after suffering an overuse injury from running. I had a marathon coming up in a month and thought that I wasn't going to be able to run it. However, after seeing him, I was back on my feet and running again, and with his help I'm going to be able to run my race!

After several years removed from playing ice hockey I decided to lace them up again. Needless to say I suffered a minor groin strain during my 2nd game a the season. I literally saw Carl for 20/30 minutes the next day and never ended up missing anytime. This can be a difficult injury to deal with just if you have the right expertise helping you with recovery, it makes a word of difference. Carl's knowledge goes above and beyond and I would recommend him as a vital part of your recovery and maintenance process.

I came in with major lower back pain and muscle spasms and having already seen my chiropractor and was looking for body work and was thrilled to discover a completely different and highly effective treatment technique!
First diagnosing the issue and then through various and different nerve ending manipulations, Carl was able to effectively and painlessly treat my symptoms.
I have run the gamut of treatments from physical therapy, to acupuncture to chiropractors and massage but Carl's methodology was unlike any other and he achieved amazing results.
Highly, highly recommend him for any type of

Carl was recommended to me by a similar practitioner in the UK as I was experiencing neck pain and movement restrictions. After 20 minutes I had regained a lot more movement in my neck. Carl is very thorough and he’s also working on some other ‘aliments’ I am experiencing. The therapy is very non invasion and may feel strange at first but it really does work...even if it feels like wizardry!
