Edward J Petner Sr. opened Petner Funeral Home in the Port Richmond/Bridesburg area circa 1939. Sometime in the 1940s he re-located in the Mayfair section of North East Philadelphia at Fanshawe and Sackett Streets. In 1950 he built the facility at its present site. Since then we have been continuing in his footsteps.
The number of people choosing cremation has increased significantly in the past few years, yet cremation carries a long tradition and remains largely unchanged. What is done before or after the cremation is up to the survivors, or up to you. You can relieve the burden of these decisions by pre planning your arrangements in advance of need so that your wishes will be honored.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.
Few people are prepared for a loved one's death. People often don't like to think about death. So when it happens, it is harder to face. However, there are healthy ways to work through grief. In time, your loss can become more bearable, allowing you to lead a fulfilling life once again. Grief is a natural part of life.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. Petner handled my Mother's services and the burial of my sister's ashes. I purchased an URN from him and her got the year of death wrong even though I gave him the correct information. He never once asked me if I needed anything during the service or if everything was satisfactory. I sent him a text a few days after to let him know that most of my mom's family was not happy with the service- he rushed through the viewing taken down the pictures 20 minutes early among other issues. What does this guy do? (Ed Petner) He calls me at work to argue with me a week after

Petner Funeral Home has handled 3 relatives funerals todays being the most recent one my dads funeral. They handled his funeral wonderfully and made the process very easy under a stressful and sad time for myself and my family. Ed Petner was wonderful and timed everything perfect and respected and honored our wishes. They did a fabulous job laying my father for his viewing and made him look at peace. Something my whole family needed to see especially since my father had not been well. The Petner family did not try to sell us the most expensive everything they helped us work within budget and made
