Services
Dr. Jones is the owner of Schmitt's Animal Hospital. What she loves most about her job is enjoying the human-animal bond and working with a great staff. Outside of work she enjoys kayaking, photography, and fresh water aquariums - fish and shrimp. Her four-legged family includes the larger dog - Kara; the little dogs - Forrest and Karmal; and the cats: Suu Kyi, Orangey, and Tiger Lily.
One of our main focuses at Schmitt's Animal Hospital is preventative care. The goal is to prevent major illnesses and diseases before it becomes necessary to treat them. This is accomplished through annual exams for adult pets and semi-annual exams for senior pets. We recognize that some pet owners may be hesitant to bring a pet that seems perfectly healthy in for a visit.
As your pet ages, they need more advanced care and attention. Our hospital recommends twice yearly senior exams. A lot can change with their health in a short amount of time. We consider seniors to be dogs aged 7+ and cats aged 9+. The doctor will assess their weight and body condition and examine them from nose to tail.
Treating heartworm disease in dogs can be costly and time consuming, and any damage caused may be permanent. There is no approved heartworm treatment for cats, yet just one adult heartworm can be enough to result in death. Fortunately, heartworm disease is easy to prevent. Here at Schmitt's Animal Hospital we recommend annual heartworm testing for dogs along with a monthly heartworm preventative year-round.
Our hospital is equipped with a fully operational surgery suite. All of our doctors perform a variety of surgical procedures including: spay, neuter, declaw, growth removal, C-section, abdominal exploratory, spleen removal, bladder surgery, amputations, and minor orthopedic surgery. Most surgery patients can be dropped off the morning of surgery and picked up later that afternoon.

Very happy with them, well, most of them. There is one abrasive vet, a Dr Jones, that I was already warned about but I hadn’t gotten her yet until today. By her attitude on the phone I knew straight away I’d finally run into her. Sure enough she lived up to her reputation. Outside of her, who I will try never to get again, I’m very happy.

My appointment was made quickly for a convenient time. As they were out of the necessary treatment (cream/spray), I was able to purchase it from Walgreen's over-the-counter supplies (pets and people have a closer physical makeup than I realized). It was really appreciated that a vet employee volunteered to carry the cage and 15-lb. recently adopted male cat (Shadow) to and from his appointment.

The staff here do a great job, we're lucky to have a good vet near our neighborhood. There have been a couple of instances where our dog has needed urgent attention and they have been extremely helpful when we call, and actually more proactive than the emergency animal emergency hospital on the other side of town. The cost of visits also seems quite reasonable

We love Dr. Schmitt, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Timmer. The other staff are always wonderful too! We have 3 generations that bring pets to Schmitt's Animal Hospital. They are always our first call to care for our furry loved ones. Weather it's general care, surgeries, or even end of life, they always love your pets just as much as we do. Even when we moved more than 40 minutes away, we still make the drive. ❤️

I just had to have my dog put down. They were SO compassionate, loving & patient. They did NOT rush me. They gave me plenty of time with her in the room before and after. The vet encouraged me to keep hugging & kissing her during the process. The vet tech took her from me & hugged & kissed her head when we were leaving. They were ANGELS!

I adopted my dog a few months ago. She’s a senior basset hound who recently displayed behaviors that indicate she’s in pain somewhere. I called at 10:50am and they fit her in at 11:30. I was seen by the vet… tech the moment I walked in the door and the vet, Dr. Cochell, was soon to follow. They took care of my dog very quickly and were incredibly kind. 10/10 would recommend them!

I take my cats here and recently had to put one down... they are so compassionate and really helped me feel comfortable about it and even sent me a thing a week later saying that a tree would be planted in memory of my Tootie..I thought this was such a beautiful gesture and I'm sure most animal hospitals don't do this .. definately recommend... also the paw print box thing that u can get is very nice and I really love that too.

Schmitt’s Animal Hospital is great, I always know my animals are in good hands with them. I always get treated with respect, the customer service is great. I’ve been here for over 7 years now and I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. When I bring my German Shepherd in everyone obsessed over him and gives him tons of treats.
