Services
At the beginning, Mike would work by himself late into the night to ensure that each vehicle was taken care of. It wasn't until January of 1968 when Gordon Automotive hired its first employee. Mike continued to grow the business, moving into a new location in January of 1979. Additional bays and employees were added throughout the years to accommodate the community and be able to assist more of our customers.
The days of the "shade tree mechanic" are long gone. Today's vehicles are high tech at its best. We try and provide, you the customer, the best information possible so you can understand what is being done to your vehicle. To provide the best possible service we hold our technicians to the highest standard.
I am out of town a lot, so my car sits. I take it to Gordon and they always check it out so I know I won't break down. I've lived in Austin over 15 years, and once I found Gordon Automotive, I've only used them even when the dealerships who sold me my two new cars during that time provide incentives.

My Mazda's engine light came on, so I went to Gordon Automotive, the closest shop to where I live. They quoted me a price of $129.50 to diagnose the problem (a search online later revealed that most shops charge $88-$111 for such a diagnosis on a Mazda). About 1-1/2 hour later, they called back and recommended that I replace the fuel tank cap. They wanted $50 for a cap! I know very little about cars, but even I know that that is way too much, so I declined. (Sure enough, when I later did a search online, I saw that you could get one at a discount auto parts store for $5.83, or at a Mazda dealer

It started with my front end shimmying so I took it in thinking it was a front end alignment but they informed me it was more likely a tire balance issue. Their tire balance machine is out of commission so they sent me to a competitor to get the job done. I was in and out of the competitor's in about 20 minutes for four tires being balanced and they also told me I had an issue with my front axle. Not confident in their assessment in such a short examination window, I took my car back to Gordon. They were so helpful (and apologetic), they took my car to another place to have my tires balanced

Another great experience at my garage, Gordon's Automotive. Greeted right away, service is great. Everything I needed done got done plus more. Waiting room is beautiful, clean. Tv. Coffee maker, sodas. 2 couches and a media area at the wall counter. I brought a book to read and an hour later everything on my car was done. Oil change, tire rotation, belts hoses fluids, breaks, a whole list of things were checked on and filled up. Fantastic consistent service.
Here again, state inspection this time. Constant service. Greeted happily, service was great. I did get here a little later in the morning

My go-to shop from now on!
The AC in my car had gradually started blowing hot air for a few weeks and driving in the Texas heat is really unbearable (understatement). I was starting to get used to rolling every window all the way down and still sweating like a dog, no more procrastinating!
I'd also gotten a pamphlet in the mail advertising a free AC check!, plus Gordon is super conveniently within walking distance of my house, double whammy. The place appeared very clean and organized. Roy was gracious and professional, and they honored the pamphlet offer. The next day I brought my car back

I had success with Gordon Automotive repairing my car in the past, but last month I took my car in due to it running rough. They gave my car a tune up and replaced my back brakes. The cost was $1300. When I drove home I noticed that the car ran worse than when I brought it in. Not wanting to throw good money after bad I took the car to the Mazda dealer who told me that the brake was not installed properly and as a result they had to resurface the rotors and sand down the brake pad. Three of the ignition coils clips were broken and not making proper connection and that needed to be corrected

After one too many bad experiences at the dealer service center, I decided to give a local car shop a try. I'm glad I did. The service here is faster and friendlier and somehow I've even managed to spend less than I expected the couple times I've been in. They've even sent me away with the recommendation that I don't spend the money on an expensive fix the problem them since it wasn't a safety issue and wouldn't cause any larger problems by waiting a bit. Who would have thought there's a car repair place that wouldn't start drooling at the chance to

Love this shop. I've never had better service from a neighborhood mechanic! We've been taking our cars here for about 6 years and get good values and honest advice every time. They always break down the prices for what we 'have to do' vs 'what we will eventually have to do' which helps us plan and do the minimum/ what we can :)
We brought my new/used SUV here for a look-over since we trust them and for two hundred dollars and a few hours we got a great report which lead us to confidently buy the car. And it's been perfect for 6 months.

Honorable mechanics here.
I originally came in to get a noise fixed that I figured was the alternator. I never really explained to them what the issue actually was, and just told them to replace it. They did, and that wasn't what was causing the noise. I came back to them with a complaint that the noise hadn't been fixed yet, and really it's on me not starting with that in the first place.
A bad mechanic would just say "well the parts on their now, do you want us to continue working on it?" with no refund.
A decent mechanic might say "I can refund you the parts

Gordon Automotive was as professional as they were nice and lovely! Their speed in responding to me after sending a 'request a quote' was impressive and led me to choose them right away to fix my brake issue.
It sounded like my car was enduring an exorcism for about a month too long until it really was unsafe and more importantly - probably getting more and more expensive with every slow and painful stop I made in my trusty ol' Kia. Basically, my brake pads were worn down and it had reached the point of destroying my rotor. I had reached the point of not only putting myself in danger

Took our car in about a year ago to have them tell us what was wrong with it. Well, 250.00 dollars later they tell us it's a seized motor and will cost us 8000.00 to fix it. We have let the car sit for almost a year now because 8000.00 was going to take a bit to come up with. We just recently made a new friend who is a certified mechanic. He offered to look at the car. Turns out is not a seized motor, it a seized A/C Compressor that can be bypassed or you can get the part for around 300.00. Will not trust Gordon with any of our vehicles again. Highly recommend if you take your car there

Always has been a great place. However, now they have added Cynthia, a bona-fide, actual real girl-type female! This does NOT mean that Cynthia doesn't know her stuff (she does!) or that she wastes time in chitchat (she listens VERY carefully!). Cynthia is very special because she offers options, pays a crazy amount of attention to detail and gives more information than any other customer service representative I've ever known (and I've known many!). I had no idea how much difference it would make to my experience to have Cynthia on the Gordon Automotive team. Cynthia respects my

Sorry guys but I cannot come back here any more. Very disappointed with the service I received today.
I made an appointment online for vehicle inspection and got a confirmation email. I came in at my scheduled time and was told I didn't have an appointment. After finding my appointment I was asked for my insurance card. My insurance company provides electronic copies of ID cards so I showed him my phone. He said Texas state requires a physical copy of the form. When I asked him to print a copy he gave me a look like I was speaking another language. Rather than argue anymore at this early

I came to Austin with a '97 Ford Taurus and little. As you can imagine, I have a TON of experience with mechanics with a car that old. Gordon's has done fantastic work fixing the transmission, leaks, and whatever random engine stuff happens to a 20-year-old car.
But my favorite thing about Gordon's is that they always seem to have my best interest in mind. Marshall always tried to work out the best deal for me money and safety-wise. They've let my car sit in their lot on multiple occasions while I tried to get money together. Marshall has often encouraged ME to wait a few more

I live nearby, so I get the $20 oil change coupon in the mail. I've gotten my oil changed here twice and have not had any problems. The customer service is exceptional, particularly Brandon, who is usually at the front. I can drop it off without an appointment and have it back in an hour or less. I've gotten a few estimates on additional work, which seems pricey, but they are definitely not pushy. I love and appreciate that!

My old Scout suddenly began running funkily. I took it to my trusted mechanic but they don't work on carbureted vehicles. They suggested that Gordon might be able to help.
I took it there and left it for a diagnosis. The diagnosis was that it needed a new carburetor, as well as plugs, points, rotor etc. The bottom line? Nearly $2000. Gulp!
I told a mechanically minded friend about the diagnosis and he said that it sounded like a stuck float valve and that perhaps some gentle taps on the fuel bowl might free it uo. Tap I did, and voila, it's running great!
It cost me $120 to get Gordon
