Services
Lakeside Animal Hospital was founded in 1939 by Dr. A.W. Lange. The headline in the Whitefish Bay Herald read, "Animal Hospital in Whitefish Bay Cures Ills of Family Pets." The story continued: Air-conditioned throughout, the hospital is equipped with the most modern and sanitary equipment. Outdoor exercise yards are provided for patients that can 'be about.'
We're proud to offer a broad range of veterinary services on top of our expertise as an emergency animal hospital. We actually prefer to focus on wellness care and preventative medicine for your pets and to avoid emergency situations! When you start with a head-to-toe wellness exam, we'll be able to identify any needs your pet may have, and advise you on the best way to care for him or her.
Dr. Kowitz graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1990 and joined the Lakeside staff in 1995. He brings amazing experience to his practice, and clients really like working with him for his compassion and his ability to talk medicine in ways that are easily understood. He is our ultrasound guru and is very willing to explain and teach his colleagues about ultrasound.
Dr. Martinez graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1995 and has spent the majority of her career her at Lakeside, joining the hospital medical staff in 2001. She enjoys feline and canine internal medicine, and is a well-loved vet at Lakeside. Dr. Martinez loves the staff and her clients. Many, she has seen for years and watched their furry family members grow.
Dr. Poetzel graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 and joined the Lakeside staff in 2005. He enjoys all types of surgery, and has repaired many cruciate tears (anterior cruciate ligament) for our canine patients. He also has a soft spot for new puppy and kitten exams.

I have a rat who needs his teeth trimmed regularly, and the folks at Lakeside have done a great job both times I have went. He is a particularly rambunctious rat, and they were able to trim his teeth without anesthesia which is not easy! They also treated one of my boys for an abscess and it healed beautifully, and they checked on a respiratory issue he was also having.
A bit pricey, and they don't really specialize in small animals, but I have trouble getting in at Small Animal Hospital (their sister clinic) on short notice. Definitely will continue to go here for all my rattie's needs.

Our pup Mully has always been excited to go to the vet… that’s right, excited! She loves it because the staff and Vets are the best and know her by name when she walks through the door. they are always super friendly and treat our fur baby like it’s their own.
Even after moving more than a half hour away, we still make the drive because we know that no other vet has given us this kind of service and care for our sweet girl.
Highly recommend them if you are looking!

I brought in my new puppy to Lakeside for her first checkup and the staff and protocols made the experience a great one.
Masks and distancing are required. The staff were friendly and helpful. The service was compassionate and thorough. They made puppy feel as comfortable as possible.
I strongly suggest any pet owner in the area to visit Lakeside Animal Hospital.

We had our first visit with Dr. Judy at Lakeside for our old guy, Jack, a 12+ year old black lab mix. She was courteous and professional and asked us lots of questions. Jack is not a fan of going to the vet, but Dr. Judy worked her magic to get him to settle down so she could do a thorough exam and when she gave him his vaccinations, he didn't flinch or make a peep. She didn't try to push any extra services on us (our prior vet did this constantly). Also, we've had sticker shock at other vet clinics, but were pleasantly surprised to find our bill was under $200 (included full exam and three vaccinations

I’ve been going to Lakeside Animal Hospital for over 15 years. They have helped me with several pets .. what stands out to me versus other clinics I’ve gone to is their kindness and compassion. Dr. Martinez is just the best but everyone on staff is the cream of the crop!
