The lamb buriyani is just amazing!!
Update: 25/01/2022
Bought a party Biriyani from Maharaja. It was a party indeed. Huge chunks of lamb, chicken, gigantic shrimps and nicely flavored rice. Amazing dish. Worth for money we spent. It was adequate for 3 people with double servings. Will be buying food once again from Maharaja for sure.

Fantastic Northern Indian food. Coming from a city in the UK with a large Indian population, I was spoiled with access to excellent Indian restaurants growing up. To me this is the great Indian restaurant in the area, because the quality is so high, the variety excellent, with dishes tasting different and enticing, and is just similar to what I experienced back at home.

You can't eat here anymore! It's takeout only. This is the real effect of Covid.

A full size restaurant that won't serve people anymore, because they can charge full prices and sell takeout. A major boondoggle for the restaurant and a total screw job for the customers.

I will NEVER go back, either for takeout or dine in if they ever begin again. This after eating here regularly for lunch.

Another place that makes more money and doesn't provide service.

This makes me angry. If it does to you too, leave them a review and let them know.

Terrible!! We ordered take out of 2 appetizers and the aloo Mater. Aloo Mater was ok. Samosas were dry and just NOT that great. And the chicken kabob was not there! It was some other meat dish and looked dry and like it had been sitting out for a while. I’m soooonot impressed with this place. The first time we ate there was inside the restaurant a few years ago and it was very good. When i called to report they gave us the wrong order the woman said we could get that amount off of our next bill. However we most likely will NOT be back.

We ordered few items but those are not fully satisfied.
1. Chicken pakora— it’s the worst I ever had. It’s full of oil, dressing is bad, and chicken quality is not good.
2. Chicken korma— it’s good. Satisfied with the curry.
3. Chicken biriyani— it’s not taste like biriyani, they just mixed with chicken curry and served us.
See the chicken pakora photo (see oil to my fingers).

Very good food but very spicy compared to similar restaurants. I fished the chicken out of vindaloo sauce and enjoyed.
Delivery was in half the promised time.

Good choice of veggie dishes in buffet. Hot naan served upon request.taste of food is mild so generally I ask for hot chilli from wait person. Sweet dishes especially gulag jambus are soft and melts in the mouth

Excellent food and great people! My wife and I ordered lamb saag and chicken curry both had tons of flavor. I also had a small problem with Grubhub and the manager helped me get it resolved. We will definitely be going back!

Got the chicken pakora, samosa and biryani.
The pakora were not bad but the condiments you get with it definitely took it up a big notch. Was really impressed with the chicken samosa. Flavor not all that great. The chicken biryani was on point. I order it one down on their spice scale and that felt like the top level of spice. So be aware on that. Good food overall have to try other dishes to get a real idea still.

My latest experience with Maharaja Restaurant was unfortunately, not good.
I tried the lunch "to go" special with shrimp. I asked for medium spicy; it came very hot. The sauce was unimpressive, heavy on the tomato paste. The side dish of curry beans was also not up to what I've come to expect from this restaurant.
I ordered the Malai Kofta as well, and when I got home, I found it was packed into a cardboard soup container that was not really big enough to hold the food. So the kofta balls were crushed into the thick sauce. I was disappointed. The dish tasted good, as usual

Authentic, healthy, delicious and full of flavor. I was so impressed with the food. We had a good variety of dishes: assorted appetizers, shrimp vindaloo, spinach with mushrooms, Dahl. Everything was wonderful. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
The portions are very generous! We got two more lunches with the leftovers.

The place was very well decorated, the serving ware was also very nice.

The Chicken Samosas were great, wasn't sure what the sauces were but they were good, the Chicken Vindaloo was Tender and very spicy, which is fine I like spicy foods, the side of curry with the rice was great, extra charge but that's fine, the Garlic Nan was soft and warm, the Pan Ice Cream I can't describe the flavor but it will help with any lingering heat from spicy foods.

My friend let me try some of his Lamb Tiki Masala, very tender.

Would go again.

I came here based upon the reviews on Yelp. They were accurate. This place is good. The good is very authentic and delicious. Customer service was good and quick service. The level of spice was appropriate for my order, I like it very spicy and I was not disappointed! I will definitely recommend this place, as I do not live in Albany, just visiting.

This is a hidden gem!! And incredibly POPULAR with locals and non locals alike!
FOOD:
I started with a popular appetizer, Mulligatawny lentil soup. It was creamy and delicious. The right temperature to begin my meal.
I had curry chicken and it came with white rice. It was DELICIOUS. By far the best curry I’ve paid for. I had the mild spiciness, but if you love spicy food, I recommend getting it spicer.
My boyfriend had the tandoori chicken. It was seasoned perfectly and was delicious. I found it as their take on a chicken barbecue. Delicious.
Not pictured garlic naan. Yummy.
SERVICE:
Great

We were in the Albany area visiting from NYC and decided to try this place out because of the fabulous reviews. We had come on a Sunday for their lunch buffet and as other reviewers said they are extremely limited in their buffet. We ordered a long island ice tea (watered down) & Tamarind Margarita ( mind blowing delicious ).
The restaurant does use fresh good quality ingredients but lacking on variety makes it not worth another trip. Staff were polite and the establishment is clean. The decor throughout the place is beautiful and the their color scheme is also very nice and seems to coordinate

By far, the best Indian food I've had in such a long time. Such a great environment full of friendly staff. Everything was wonderful... from the moment we walked in, to the time we left, wonderful experience. Heck, even the water tasted great! As a new vegetarian, I ordered the vegetarian kafta and vegetable rice, and it was amazing!

If you are looking for an aunthentic Indian food in Upstate New York, I highly recommend this restaurant. Almost fine dining, as soon as you walk inside. Most of utensils are the one that they serve and use in India. The entire place is very appealing, very attractive Indian art. It is also neat and clean.
AA and ordered: Goat curry, chana masala, masala dosa, samosa. All are perfectly served. Hot from the kitchen. I could say the Indian touched was there in every bite and the aroma, hmmm. Very satistying. We also have their Chai Tea that no one in this area can ever do it, it was not just refreshing

Excellent service and delicious food! The restaurant offers a wonderful ambience and is accentuated with beautiful canvas paintings that will take you through a journey of Indian villages. The copper utensils were another feather in their hat.
In the appetizers I'd recommend all that we had, the Dahi ke kebab, Dahi Papri chaat and wada, grilled salmon and lamb shanks. In the main course, i loved the dal, lamb curry, butter chicken and the paneer kofta. The cherry on the cake was the Pan ice cream. It is definitely not to be missed!

The decor here is kind of over-the-top, but in a good way! I think it's very tasteful and I love the details in the lights, paintings, comfortable cushioned seats, and goblets for your water. They are advertising themselves as a higher end Indian restaurant and it's a refreshing atmosphere. Everyone in the restaurant when we came in was Indian which was also a rare sight.

The food was delicious--we got chicken tikka masala, chicken murg (?), chicken biryani, and a lamb dish and everything was great and nicely presented, not too spicy (actually could have been a bit spicier). The chicken

Yay Indian Lunch buffet that has good diversity of dishes! The outside of this place doesn't look so great, kind of run down and unattractive sign. However, once you step in the ceiling, lights, decor, traditional metal goblets/containers and flatware give a welcoming Indian cultural feel.

My faves are the tiki masala, the yellow sauce veggie, paneer spinach, vegetable pakora, tamarind sauce, papadam crispy thin cracker (wish this was part of the Buffet or wish it was unlimited like the Naan is) , and dessert rasmali (sweet cheese -btw free dessert with regular menu entree-Yelp).

Great authentic Indian cuisine! The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. They have common menu items like Samoas and Tikki Masala but also other items you'll need to Google unless you're familiar with Indian food (which I wasn't). Food can be prepared mild - hot. We got mild and it wasn't hot at all. Serving sizes were good enough to allow for to be brought home. Prices were average for a sit down restaurant.
Don't be scared to try new things! Definitely worth stopping by at least once. The staff seems more then happy to explain what menu items are if you don't know.
