Growing up in Mobile, Alabama, Wes Lambert (owner of The Dumbwaiter Restaurant) was raised on southern food and fresh seafood. When Wes and his wife, Dana decided to create a business that showcased this style of cuisine, they knew that their flagship restaurant belonged in the heart of downtown Mobile.

They wanted the menu to be as unique and creative as the city itself-classic southern dishes with their own special flavor. Local artisans and tradesman crafted the atmosphere inside the Dumbwaiter to reflect the ambiance of the city just outside its doors. At the Dumbwaiter restaurant, we welcome you to pull up a chair and enjoy a meal inspired by the spirit of the south.

I went here recently with 3 friends while we were on a weekend trip to Mobile. Made a reservation and was seated promptly when we arrived. Most of the things I'm going to talk about here are relatively small but if you're paying $40+ per plate you just expect more. For example, there was duct table holding our table together. Yeah. You can't make this up.
We were seated right under an air conditioning unit. We asked if they would turn the air down or if we could move tables and both requests were denied. We sat the rest of the meal with our big coats on to avoid freezing.
The coffee was french

First visit, great atmosphere and swanky joint. We started off with the tuna app which was your standard blackened tuna app. Dressed up and decent. Soy, ginger, orange flavors. However we moved to the fried green tomatoes, anywhere I go I go I have to try. These were some of the best I have had, coated in cheese and deep fried with a sweet bacon white cream sauce. These are worth the visit.
Moving on to the entree, fried pork chop. Not mind blowing but very simple and delicious. Not overly breaded but just perfectly breaded with a light crisp and juicy bone in pork chop. The main draw back was

Great food, especially the shrimp and grits! Husband had the waygu "burger" w/roasted veggies and garlic mashed potatoes: also yummy! It is definitely loud, so don't go there when you're looking for a quiet night out.

Made a reservation so easy to get our table. Drinks were great. Grilled shrimp was a good starter. The stuffed chicken breast was incredible. Only gave it four stars because I wasn't pleased with the fried pork chops and potatoes, I couldn't eat it because the potatoes had too much pepper and the gravy on the pork chop had too much salt. Staff was attentive and friendly. Great location to walk around downtown as well.

Good atmosphere. Great food. Best Brussels sprouts I have had in a long time. I had the Hook to Table special featuring Sheepshead, and it was excellent. We were seated at a window table with a view of the park, which was perfect for date night.

What - a - meal. I am originally from New Orleans and Mobile has done a heck of a job of recreating a French Quarter feel, and this restaurant could thrive in the competition of that environment. My wife said the Shrimp and Grits was among the best she has had, my ribeye was perfect, the stuffed chicken was exceptional - we went up, down and around the menu and didn't find anything that wasn't done well. Good wine selection and the mixed drinks were stiff. Bring your wallet, but its worth the cost!

Dined here last night. Highly recommend. My wife went with scallops over kale. She said they were fantastic. I went with an off menu fish special which was equally scrumptious. The service and food were fantastic. It's a bit on the pricy side, so be prepared for that, but worth it!

New to the restaurant scene in Downtown Mobile and it was excellent. It can get a little noisy since the seating is tight but the food is awesome. The fresh cornbread and pork rinds are a nice treat while you wait for your first course. Drink menu looks tasty but have not attempted yet. Sister restaurant is in Fairhope, AL. They have fresh catch and fresh butcher cuts daily. I tried the rack of lamb this time but my table also had a great Cesar salad and there take on shrimp and grits. Service was super fast and all the dishes were perfect. Don’t let the noise keep you away, try this place and
