Stacey M. Kelley is a 1995 graduate of Villanova University School of Law. She moved to the Seattle area in 1996 and has been practicing in Washington State for more than 23 years. 1. Stay Calm: Remember to breathe slowly. Most people are in shock when an accident happens. If needed, call the police to report the accident. 2. Find Witnesses: Get their name and number, and any details they can tell you about the accident. If the police were called, they may also need witness information.
If you think you are seriously injured, seek medical attention immediately. When you wait to seek treatment, it becomes more difficult to prove that your injury was caused by the accident, and not something else. 2. Do not give the at-fault driver's insurance company too much information. They will ask for a recorded statement, and may ask for a medical release.
It is never easy when an unexpected injury occurs and makes a person's life confused and chaotic. In today's busy world of work, school, and family obligations, the last thing a person needs is the stress of hospital treatments, doctor's appointments, and rehabilitation. Combine that with the extra burden of dealing with an insurance and health care companies, and returning to normal life becomes that much harder.

After suffering a serious traffic accident, I reached out to many personal injury attorneys in the area and was unsuccessful in convincing them that my situation warranted a personal injury case.
