Listening to others and understanding them has been a value of mine since I was a child. People fascinate me. In a funny way, I see a reflection of myself in others when I really listen-similar insecurities, disappointments, efforts, values, fears, etc. The value of knowing that "we are not alone" would lead me to a lifetime of listening both personally and professionally.
My undergraduate work in philosophy and art clearly impact my practice. I work to "bracket" my theoretical presuppositions about people and allow myself to bend toward the experience of the client. This technique is drawn from a philosophical concept called the Phenomenological Method. Diagnostic categories and treatment methods, while extremely helpful, come second only after taking the time to really listen first.

Brendan has years of counseling experience working with children, families, and parents/couples. He is well respected in the field and is warm, friendly, caring person and exactly who I would bring my son or daughter to see. If you are in need or just looking to find out more, you will be so glad you reached out.
While counseling is becoming a mainstay in our culture, many people continue to avoid therapy due to a fear of the unknown, feeling like a counselor wouldn't understand, due to embarrassment, or a belief that going to counseling means something is "wrong" with them. Others avoid counseling due to bad experiences with therapy in the past.
Artists are inherently resilient. Many artists have discovered, through the act of creating art, that they can not only influence others, but can tolerate significant psychological distress. The process of creating art is often soothing in itself-the brush strokes, the beats, and the repetitive movements for example.
