Services
At Solace Family Counseling, we believe that there are moments along life's journey that are best traveled with a partner. It is our hope to provide you with the support you need to find healing in life's harsher moments. I imagine that the reasons to enter a healing journey are as varied as the sojourners that travel it.
According to EMDRIA (EMDR International Association), EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has demonstrated effectiveness for trauma.
While adults talk out their problems, children "play out their problems". Play is the language of children, and in speaking that language, we can work to help them discover their own strengths in facing the sometimes harsh realities of life. Play is the means by which children express and learn themselves.
It is the rare teenager that enters a counselor's office with fists in the air, excited to start therapy. For those of you who have teenagers, the image is almost humorous. In no other context is it more obvious that counseling, by its very nature, is weird. To talk with someone you have just met about things are significant and meaningful to you - things you have not yet disclosed to your closest friends - is weird.
