We are Structural Designers who bring construction experience and a love for building to the practice of Engineering. Our backgrounds provide the imperative: work on construction sites throughout our upbringing; completing degrees in both Architecture and then Structural Engineering; and finally, forming Framework upon licensure as Professional Engineers.
We've bent rebar, built formwork, and poured concrete. We've built decks, framed walls, and renovated homes. We understand the builder's perspective and take pride in elegant, economic structural solutions that dovetail constructability and the human factor often lost in drawings with the design intent of the project.

Services
We offer feasibility studies, schematic design, peer review of drawings, and early engineering support of projects still in a conceptual stage in order to remove design obstacles and help with decision-making. We offer onsite consultations that focus on a project's structural options and order of magnitude pricing.
John is a Principal and Founder of Framework Engineering and is based out of Portland, Ore. With formal training in both Architecture and Engineering and more than a decade of experience working in the industry, his professional work strives to achieve resilient structural solutions that realize the design intent of the owner and architect.

I'm very pleased with the service provided by John - he is very knowledgable and gave me lots of great advice. We're planning to do some work on our 1903 house in Portland and he was able to help me understand what might be possible in terms of a remodel from structural point of view. I'll certainly reach out to John if (when!) we move forward with our plans.

I was pleased with the work - they scheduled about 3 weeks out for me to review my foundation. John called to give notice that the prior job had run long, and arrived at the revised time. The foundation review went well, and he answered all my questions, and drew a diagram of suggested details to help my house withstand a big earthquake.

He helped calm a very tense situation between buyer and seller by calmly presenting his non-biased reporting methodology. He was then able to explain the structural situation in layman's terms so that all parties understood. I highly recommend him!

John Voekel at Framework Engineering was AWESOME...in every way...communication, knowledge, attention to detail, timeliness, flexibility. He put me at ease right away--it was clear from the questions he asked and what he looked at in my house that he knows what he's doing and that he understood what I wanted to do with the look of removing walls and putting in beams without having to put posts in awkward places. With John's calculations and walk through explaining everything, I felt confident going forward and so did the City Planning Office--I got my permit on first pass through.

John at Framework Engineering was absolutely wonderful to work with! He helped me review construction plans for a build that posed some very unusual engineering challenges. I truly appreciated his ability to merge both the engineering needs of the space with aesthetic design considerations that others I had spoken to weren't able to fully integrate. His design background was a real bonus. He helped me work through some trouble spots in the plans and find creative ways to maintain both the functionality and vision I was going for, while maximizing the structural integrity of the build.

John Voekel is incredible to work with. He's professional, efficient, thoughtful, and thorough. I have worked with a few other structural engineers and the others seemed much less experienced. He made the process of evaluating and scoping structural changes to my home more approachable and manageable. I have worked with him in both Oakland, CA and Portland, OR, and he clearly understands building codes and community guidelines in both locations. I'd use him again in a heartbeat.
