It is difficult to know where to place your trust when you face a legal issue. Indeed, legal issues surrounding the family, children and livelihood are the most difficult and distressing. Here is a brief description of some of these legal concepts. Anyone over the age of 18 has the right to make legal decisions and enter into enforceable contracts. This means that a person over the age of 18 has the capacity to sign contracts, sign a will, create (and sign) a family trust and sign any other legal documents.
Utah child support can be tricky to calculate, especially if one parent has been a "stay-at-home" parent. Another issue comes up when one parent is self-employed. With a self-employed parent, we must look at all sources of income and spending from the business. Many parents ask about the amount of child support, especially during the divorce process.
Once we meet and discuss the issues of your case, we will draft a formal Petition. The type of Petition (or Complaint) will depend on your specific type of case. Once we finish the Petition, the next step is to "serve" the other party with that paperwork. This is usually done by a Sheriff or a private individual (over the age of 18), who is not part of your case.

I called other lawyers who wouldn't even talk with me without first plunking down a sizable retainer. Melanie asked for a reasonable retainer only after I decided that I wished to have her represent me. Her billing rate was on par and the hours charged for her work on my behalf were likely understated.

My life resides in Melanie's hand. She loves her law, and I love her. She is up front and honest. If she sees a way she can resolve your issue she is on it! She really mulls it over, then goes in the way she has seen a way. This woman, (lawyer) always has your best interest and I couldn't recommend her higher. In my eyes, she is a Ten +. Melanie was so amazing in the worst time of my families lives. She was not only compassionate to the situation and so caring to my daughter, she also did more than I had hoped for legally.
