In the forests, the 'OAC leaf' is not evergreen. It will change in the fall season of life, and while remaining colorful and beautiful, it will also become more fragile. Northern Virginia Older Adult Counseling was founded in 2016. With a mission-oriented mindset, a mother (therapist) and daughter (Health Care Administrator) developed a plan for a new therapy practice.

The overarching goal at that time was to establish a professional counseling service that would focus on the mental health needs of older adults in our community. Fast forwarding to 2021, NOVA OAC has evolved into a thriving counseling practice with 17 licensed clinical social workers on staff working with both older and younger adult clients.

Northern Virginia Older Adult Counseling (OAC) is a professional mental healthcare practice offering counseling services to adults of all ages. With a growing number of LCSW licensed clinicians on our OAC team, OAC therapists work with both individuals and groups to treat adult clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety, medical issues and stressors, family conflict, bereavement, grief and loss.
In 1998 I became a caregiver for my elderly parents, and as they navigated their long and complicated aging path, I realized that I could be a valuable resource for others as well. I returned to college during that time and completed my social work education at George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth Universities, earning my LCSW Certification in 2006.
I work with adults, including older adults and their families, challenged by life's interruptions and stress-how can you cope? Yes, you can endure. I offer experience with aging, caregiving, life transitions, depression/anxiety, pandemic related stress, illness and disability, cognitive/neuro impairment, death and dying, care/resource planning, loss and grief, trauma and relationship/conflict resolution.
For over 16 years, Colleen has served older adults and their families with insight and compassion for the unique strengths and challenges faced by older adults. As an experienced LCSW, Colleen recognizes and capitalizes on the wisdom and faith that her clients have gained through years of successfully facing life's challenges.
