For over 20 years, High Sierra Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a designated 501c3 nonprofit and longstanding member of the National AHEC Organization, has been steadfast in addressing Nevada's health care workforce shortages through recruiting, training, and retaining health professionals committed to increasing access to primary care in underserved urban and rural communities.
High Sierra AHEC works in affiliation with the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine and the Office of Statewide Initiatives to serve the following counties: Carson, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe.The purpose of High Sierra AHEC is to serve as a critical convener between academic and employer based partners to ensure workforce distribution and diversity.

Services
At the end of this week-long course, the students will present their findings in mock trials, participating first hand in real world techniques involved in our justice system. This mystery will teach and test your child on critical thinking skills, problem solving, teamwork, scientific analysis and application, medical ethics, and crime solving fun!

Increasing the cultural diversity of the health care workforce is essential for the adequate provision of culturally competent care to our nation's growing minority communities. A diverse health care workforce will help to expand health care access for the underserved, foster research in neglected areas of societal need, and enrich the pool of future health care practitioners to meet the needs of a diverse populace.
Cultural competency training offers an opportunity to increase one's cultural awareness and sensitivity. By learning about how to respect and treat unique individuals from all backgrounds, providers will improve their quality of care given and be able to effectively address the needs of any patient that they may see.
