Shinjinkai is a community united by a common purpose: intensive study of Japanese warrior arts. You'll find our culture to be one of camaraderie, hard work, and the joy of practice. Our association of dojos is known worldwide for traditional, rigorous training. Today, society judges individuals by what they do or own.
In the dojo, however, our only interest is what you use your life to become. This is the spirit of shugyo: deep mind-body training to live fully and benefit others. New members are welcome at all of our locations. Read within to learn about our group classes and how to get started. We also offer private instruction, and conduct special training events worldwide.

Services
Shinjinkai is led by persons who have a direct training relationship with Moore Sensei or another of our teachers. Shinjinkai is a member dojo in good standing of our national organization, Aikido Shimbokukai. Raised and trained in Japan, the late Aikido and Zen master Tenzan (Fumio) Toyoda arrived in Chicago in 1974 and immediately set to work spreading the teachings of Japanese martial arts and Zen.
Every autumn we revel in the beauty of the fall colors. The mixture of red, purple, orange and yellow is the result of chemical processes that take place in the tree as the seasons change from summer to winter. Monthly Quote: Learning is something that should be studied broadly. It is, for example, like the beggar's bag in which everything from leftover meat to cold soup is stored.-
Our in-person classes are still on-going. To ensure the safety of every member and guest, we are strictly following -even exceeding- IDPH and CDPH protocols. During this initial visit we'll get you oriented to the dojo. After that you'll be free to come to Aikido, Zen, or other activities at whatever class times that fit your schedule.

My review has been removed. I guess they don't respond well to criticism. Ive also found out what they are doing is illegal in Illinois regarding their contract which I list after the original review that has been removed.
Beware- I signed my children up for a 1 year membership at Shinjinkai to take aikido lessons. My kids stayed for 5 months of that time because they did not like the classes. 18 months later I find that Shinjinkai was still taking money out of our checking account. I honored the year because that was what I signed them up for, but even though my children haven’t been there

What a wonderful community of practice!
Having taken five classes, I can honestly say that each experience at Shinjinkai has gotten better and better. The students are warm, welcoming and deeply committed to their practice. Jason is an encouraging, thoughtful, patient sensei. I really like that classes are drop-in and that parking is free and convenient. Whether you're brand new to Aikido like me or advanced, you'll love being a part of this community.

I've been coming here to Shinjinkai for a little over a month now. I'm learning Mugai Ryu taught by Brian Pettett sensei. I had never taken a martial arts class before so all of this is pretty new to me. The way that he teaches is excellent and he displays great patience and a desire to see his students excel. The camaraderie among my peers is outstanding. Shinjinkai feels more like a second home.
The parking situation is excellent and there's always been plenty of parking. It's also in a convenient location since it's right by the Addison Brown Line stop and easily to

Four years ago I was looking to immerse into Aikido. I tried a few dojos in Chicago before discovering Shinjinkai. I love it!
Shinjinkai is very traditional - in its martial spirit and the manner of teaching. On the other hand, thanks to Moore Sensei, Aikido at Shinjinkai is taught in a way that makes it very practical in its application, if that's what you are looking for. You can go to classes almost every day, in the morning too!
Another thing I especially appreciate is that beginners are practicing together with more advanced folks in a way that truly benefits everyone.
