Counseling for all Seasons is my private practice, my name is Melissa Lopez, I am a licensed therapist with over 17 years experience. I am a POC/Latinx, an intersectional feminist with radical views and a lot of visible tattoos. I make that very transparent from the start because I believe that while many therapists come from the school of thought that therapists should be a blank slate, for me that idea is antiquated.

While I will not tell you the story of my life, I believe it is important for clients to know who they are working with especially for clients coming from oppressed communities. For many clients, working with a therapist who shares some of their views is important as then therapy can then be a space that can provide safety and a sense of not having to explain their experiences completely from the start as there is some common understanding.
Services
Services are offered for adults only. Services offered via telehealth via zoom or telephone. Therapy sessions are offered via Zoom for those seeking individual therapy. Zoom sessions are also ONLY offered to those residing in the state of California. Due to licensing regulations mental health therapists are only allowed to offer therapy services to clients who reside in the state the therapist is licensed.
The cost of each session is $200.00. A superbill/receipt can be provided to you if you want to use your PPO for reimbursement. Therapy sessions are tax deductible as therapy is a medical expense. To learn more about why therapy costs a certain fee, please visit: Why does therapy cost so much? Due to numerous insurance restrictions, I only take United Healthcare and Oscar.
As a Latinx/PoC, I know that there are many issues that affect the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities. Intergenerational trauma, racism, white supremacy, colorism, immigration laws, police violence against PoC communities, class disparities, the issues go on and on. As PoC we live in a society that has systematically oppressed us in many manners.
Often times I hear people say that LGBTQIA acceptance is "better than in years past." And while that may be true, homophobia, transmisogyny and a heteronormative culture is still part of our society. In fact given our political climate there is now more fear in our community which can significantly impact mental health.
Navigating relationships can be difficult, often times people confuse lust for love, or love is defined by the needs that were met for us or not for us met as children. Some of you may find yourselves wanting romantic love at all times and setting unrealistic expectations for your relationship. Relationships are work, and the reality is that many people give up on relationships when a struggle or obstacle emerges.
