Welcome to my Counseling and Life Management (CALM) web site. I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in the state of Washington, and I specialize in counseling children, adolescents, and families from my office in Kirkland. On my website you will find information about my counseling services, group services, parenting advice and tips, as well as information about my parenting classes for schools and community groups.

I also offer recommendations for everyday life management such as how to structure family meetings, how to use mindful breathing to reduce stress and how to implement self-talk strategies that will help you achieve your goals. Please feel free to email me with any questions at get@calmwithlaura.com.
Services
I approach counseling much like I do life: optimistically, flexibly, and compassionately. Optimism: I believe that we can change our lives for the better once we consciously engage with our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We have influence over our moods, our energy, and our state of mind. When we operate and live in an unconscious mode, we can at times fall prey to a quiet fatalism.
Turn into the Jonesco Business Park off 122nd Ave NE and drive to the only two-story building in the back of the complex. Follow the driveway up and around to the back of the building. You will see Parent Education Group on the door. Come in and take a seat in either the front or back waiting room until I come and get you.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington. Many insurance companies cover LMHC's, but I am not on any preferred provider list. If it is important that you receive full coverage then please check with your insurance provider before making an appointment with me. My clients pay me directly and seek reimbursement from their insurance company.
If you want to become a new client, or want your child to become a new client, please email me. Emailing is better than calling because I usually can return emails quicker than I can return phone calls. If you would like me to call you to discuss your request for counseling, I can arrange a time to call you via email.
Many parents ask me how they should describe counseling to children and what they might say, especially if the child has never seen a counselor before. A counselor is a person, kind of like a teacher, who is trained to help you express your feelings, talk out your thoughts, or solve problems that might need solving.
