At the Kung fu Academy of Chicago, traditional training standards are maintained. Our commitment to the martial arts has remained firm since the establishment of the school in the mid 70s. The program of study is based on the Northern Shaolin style of the Seven Star Praying Mantis (Chi-Xing Tong Long Chuan) as taught by Master S. Kwan.

Since the Rogers Park opening, our goal has been to maintain the highest quality of class education. Tong-long chuan, or 'Praying Mantis Fist', has been hailed by most martial arts researchers as the most complete style of Kung Fu; utilizing techniques based upon devastatingly fast movements of the Praying Mantis, which has gone through 350 years of technical advancement.

Lo Kwong Yuk- 5TH generation Grandmaster who brought 7 Star Praying Mantis Fist to Jing Mo. There was once in ancient Northern China a beautiful monastery, where boys and young men went in hope of learning to live well and worthily as Buddhist monks. China was apart from the rest of the world, a vast empire bordered by the Great Wall.
Past and present martial arts Masters of Chicago. Pictures will be added periodically as they are rediscovered from the vaults of the Kung Fu Academy of Chicago. The future of martial arts depends on the strength of it's community, the cooperation of different styles, and the dedication that our students have the preserve the history of our craft.

After visiting most of the martial art schools in Rogers Park, Edgewater and Evanston, I stopped my search when I found Master Kwan and the Kung Fu Academy of Chicago. He was the first person who didn’t show me a contract, instead he said, “Try it out, see if you like it.” When I asked “Which martial art is the best?” he replied, “You get out what you put in.” Intriguing.
Sifu Kwan has been in the neighborhood over 30 years and has raised generations of qualified Black Belts and hundreds of students. He is on the floor every class and shines with energy and empathy, passion and compassion

VERY welcoming and knowledgeable staff. I think the modest fee is due to their inherent desire to teach others their craft that they have clearly mastered.
