A 1991 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, I have lived and worked in the DC area since 1967. I truly appreciate the value of providing the excellent care and service that ensure a loyal clientele. Dr. Patrick Barnes has always had compassion, patience and love for animals and people.
He is an older brother to 3 sisters as well as a dog father to 7 adorable Cocker Spaniels and 1 Chihuahua. He is a Maryland/DC native. Dr. Barnes graduated cum laude from North Carolina A&T State University in 2008 with a degree in laboratory animal science and then fulfilled his dream by graduating from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.

Services
We believe that direct, one-on-one contact with the patient and client is the best way to keep patients healthy and resolve illness. Therefore, we are committed to doing a thorough physical exam and taking a detailed history. We are also conscientious about calling clients back promptly and following up on patients who have been seen for illness, whether acute or chronic.
Have an indoor pet? Most of us do. Whether your cat is strictly indoors and you live in a high rise apartment building, or your dog leads a pampered life and spends most of his day lounging on the sofa, living inside instead of outdoors comes with special benefits and challenges. While indoor cats have a longer life expectancy, they are also more prone to weight gain, stress, and boredom.
How long is the visit? New client visits are scheduled as hour-long appointments because we need time to review the pet's history, listen and talk to you, get to know our new patient and perform a thorough exam and any necessary diagnostics. How do I confirm the appointment? We ask that you provide 2 contact phone numbers where we can reach you to confirm the appointment.

I took my dog here because it was close to us and potentially better prices than my original vet in DC. However I have been mistreated. The staff are ride and the main vet is awful, i brought my dog in bc of a growth which the vet brushed off as cosmetic- they didnt clean it up, or give me anything for it. Fast forward to a year or so later I brought her back as it was getting crusty. Again they dodnt clean her up, said she thought it was nothing, charged me $70 + and tried to guilt me into doing a bunch of other tests. A few months later the thing is all crusty and bleeding and raw and I

Critical: Professionalism
Nothing against the actual vets at this practice, I think they're wonderful and have for the past 5+ years we've been going here. The front desk staff however, is atrocious. Talk about negative energy. Every single time I've called, they answer the phone in negative tones and continue to speak in a clipped, dismissive and impatient voice throughout the call The phone calls are on average two minutes or less. I get it, you're busy - we all are. Please do a better job of speaking politely to your clients on the phone - you are the front line face of this

My husband and I recently moved to the area. I chose this vet to be my new doctors for my 2 dogs. My previous vet was awesome and forwarded my pet's records to them as soon as I asked. Silver Spring Animal Hospital made it impossible for my dogs to be boarded because when they were asked by the boarding kennel to email my dog's vaccination records to them, they claimed they had no idea who I was and had no record of my pets. I needed to attend my mother's funeral out of state and had to beg a friend last minute to care for my animals. Then when I went to my dog's first appointment they told me

I am a cat behavior consultant and quite frankly a helicopter mom. Never in my life have I found a veterinary office where the vet techs and veterinarian met my standards for compassionate care. That is until I went to Dr. Krishna. The vet tech who carried my cat carrier in held it correctly (one hand on the handle, one hand underneath in case it breaks or comes loose). Dr. Krishna and her team treated my senior cat with TLC that I have never witnessed in a veterinarian before. She included me in his exam to keep him calm. She spoke to him with the softest voice, practically singing to him. She

I have been looking for a new vet for a while, and I can't tell you how happy I am finding this one. Right now, with covid, you call when you get there and a vet tech will come out and take you in. I was happy to be able to talk with the doctor in person. The staff was super friendly, and the doctor was great, I could not ask for a better experience.

Really great experience here! The doctor and staff were efficient, timely, and helpful. The doctor made sure to answer all my questions thoroughly and explain my options for care of my newly adopted cat. The parking lot looks like it can get a bit crowded, but the standard of care provided here makes the minor inconvenience worth it.

My fiancé & I are first-time dog owners. After adopting a senior dog with a myriad of health “surprises”, Silver Spring Animal Hospital has been an incredible resource to us, providing insight from our first advice call, to setting up our pet as one of their patients.
The attendants and doctors have all been friendly, and Dr. Krishna made room to see my dog on a busy day, after I called in the morning with concerns of joint pain. It feels like they genuinely care for your pet’s well-being, and their prices don’t feel hiked up like many other animal hospitals.

My cats have been patients of Dr. Krishna's for many years, and she has provided thorough, thoughtful, and excellent care for all of them. She thinks "outside the box" for some conditions, suggesting OTC and human foods as possible solutions. She also offers options for treatment, and discusses pros and cons and costs. The vet techs are wonderful -- personable, gentle, and caring. I love this practice and have recommended it to many friends and acquaintances.

This place is all about the money without the brains or the amenities. And god help you should you disagree with that first rate cheapskate Dr. Krishna. She doesn't even stock basic medical supplies like snoodies because she's too cheap to pay for them. Her support staff is good but she's unbearable. She's so cheap there aren't enough chairs to accommodate customers. Her final act with me was when she wrapped my dachshund's bleeding head in toilet paper because she didn't have a snoody. And her prices are outrageous. I guess she ratholing the money in her

Our first experience her with Dr. Krishna was amazing- she was very thorough and we were taken in at our scheduled time. The following interactions, with some of the staff and other doctors, were not so pleasant.
We tried to pick up some medication for one of our dogs, not only was it not ready, they had no record of the doctor prescribing it. Not a big deal, accidents happen, but we came back another day and it was still not ready.
Another time we brought our dog in who was under the weather. After a very brief exam Dr. Barnes gave him some meds that in my untrained mind seemed to treat unrelated

As usual, my cat's visit with Dr. Krishna at Silver Spring Animal Hospital was detailed and worthwhile. Dr. K diagnosed a kidney infection and prescribed medicine and special food. She detected a heart murmur and recommended a specialist. When the urinalysis results were in, she prescribed medicine for the urinary tract infection they showed. So the kitty stays with me a while longer.

I recently lost my buddy Allie at 13 1/2 years of age. As one might expect, her health began to decline in recent years. For the past 2 years, Allie was a patient at Silver Spring Animal Hospital. Dr. Barnes was wonderful with Allie and very thorough with his examinations, in detailing symptoms and providing appropriate care. In fact, Dr. Barnes would call 1-2 days after each visit to check in on Allie. That was something I'd never experienced before.
When it was evident that Allie's time had come, Silver Spring Animal Hospital was wonderful. The entire staff was extremely supportive and compassionate

I have been going to Silver Spring Animal Hospital since I moved to the area a few years ago. While I've always been pleased, the kindness and compassion they displayed when I brought in my cat to be put down was truly extraordinary. In addition, they followed up with a handwritten condolence card. My sincere thanks to both vets and the entire staff. I just wish they would have stayed in Silver Spring...

GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE PLEASE!!!! I have 5 animals! This is the worst place I have ever been. Many reasons to follow. 1) took my kitten there 10 days ago for a spay... she now has to have emergency surgery because of an infection. (I DONT WORK! Im home all the time; and I have 5 animals.) this is the first issue I'm ever having and the first time I've ever been to this clinic. 2) the doctor was rude, insensitive and completely an "in and out" doctor didn't give a F*** about which animal it was. CALLED MINE BY THE WRONG NAME! 3) Tried to make an appt for my other 4 animals

I have been taking my dogs here for fifteen years. We have always been given good, honest care - no lying about things being better or worse than they are. Dr K is a straight shooter. They are not an emergency clinic and care very deeply about providing the best primary care they can - which accounts for some of these bad reviews. The new facilities are beautiful.

I have taken many pets to Dr. Krishna over many years -- my personal pets and many foster dogs. Her quality of care far exceeds anything I have experienced at a multitude of veterinary practices, including many specialist practices in the Washington area. Dr. Krishna is very kind and caring with all pets, and takes their care very seriously. She will refer you to specialists when warranted and embraces new treatment options and ideas. I never feel rushed and the techs and other staff are great too -- some have been there before I started going. Fees are in line with other top-notch vets. There

We have been bringing our Cavachon here for 2 years now and we could not be happier. (We also could care less if the parking is not ideal and the office isn't shiny and new, what matters is our pet's health!) Dr. Krishna and her team have always done a wonderful job and we have never had any problems. They are professional and courteous and our dog is always happy to be there. I would highly recommend this vet to any pet owner, they certainly don't try to nickel and dime you like other vets and they provide quality affordable care.

Caring techs and great vets! Both Dr Krishna and Dr Meadows are awesome.Their technical staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The plusses outweigh the minuses. Unfortunately, the parking is limited, the office old and not very clean, and the receptionist is sweet but can be passive-aggressive. Good luck getting an appointment. It is becoming more difficult to schedule and the paper files get mixed up by the administrative staff sometimes between my dogs. The vet or tech has to sort it out. No emergency visits -- they simply cannot accommodate them. It now takes more than two weeks to get a regular

We just moved to the area and before we had a chance to settle in, our dog started limping. We called Silver Spring Animal Hospital to make an appointment, and because our dog would be a first-time patient, they said the soonest they could see her was in a week. In the meantime, she'd just have to suffer. (?!) The woman on the phone was very passive-aggressive, too, but I'd been expecting that after reading the reviews. Couldn't they just see her for her paw now, and establish her as a new patient later?, I asked. Apparently not, according to the woman on the phone.

This review is based solely on my first visit for a routine checkup for my one year old cat.
This Veterinarian definitely gets 5 STARS from this cat-person. The staff (everyone: the receptionist, the doctor, the assistants) were all very friendly and gentle. The doctor was very sincere and informative as well (I received a mini lecture on the evolution of cats as well as a lot of information on cat diet and nail trimming from Dr. Krishna). One of the assistants gave me a used, yet in very good condition, kitty carrier for free! Apparently they have extra carriers lying around and when they saw

We brought our puppy here for her second distemper shots. We were told to bring her in at 11 weeks, which we thought was early for her second shot. Turns out, the place just wanted to try to get our puppy four shots instead of three shots for the series. I was absolutely against this (and I'm not claiming that I know more than the vet about vaccinating a puppy but I would never agree to vaccinate my puppy more than necessary). And when I told them I only wanted the typical three shots, I was then told to bring her back in at 12 weeks . . . which meant I had accomplished nothing during the

Wonderful vet office. Toke my dog here after receiving a positive lab result. I called and got an appointment the following week. The lady on the phone was very pleasant, going through what I needed to bring and even asked the doctor how much treatments were going to be.
Upon entering, you find a small yet cozy office with just a small desk for check-in/out and a few places to sit and wait. We did not wait long and was directed to 1 of 2 exam rooms it looked like.
Dr. Meadows was very through and listened to all my concerns and observations. During the exam she would mention things she observed
