Prof. Art Alvarado is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has 25 years of combined experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling. He started his martial arts training when he wrestled for Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California. The Gracie Academy was owned by Rorion Gracie the creator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
There he had the privilege of training with Rorion, Royce, Relson, Rolker, Robin, and Grandmaster Helio Gracie. It was also there that he met and trained with Master Caique Elias. Grandmaster Helio Gracie considered Master Caique the most technical student outside of his sons! Shortly after receiving his blue belt Prof. Art entered into the Instructor Program.

Here at HBJJC, we follow the principles that were handed down from Grandmaster Helio Gracie through Master Caique Elias. Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu utilizes positioning, takedowns and throws, leverage, and submission holds to subdue the opponent. You will learn all aspects of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Sport, Self-Defense, and Vale Tudo!

I contacted to know about jiu jitsu and the instructor/ owner was kind enough to explain and invite me for a free trial. He let me attend the group class. After the class he didn’t put any pressure to sign up rather gave me options and was very friendly. I enjoyed the class. Friendly people.

I trained here for about 4 years and wouldn't want to change anything except having to move. I started in Prof. Art's kids class, where he somehow managed to give all of the kids enough individual attention to keep getting better, and rose up to the adult class eventually where the environment was comfortable and easy to improve and learn new things. Professor Art gives all around great training, and should be your choice for JJ or MMA.

My oldest son and now my youngest son trains with Coach Art. They have been in his classes for over 6 years. He is very detailed oriented with his training touching on core values in his class. He really cares about the kids he's teaching and he keeps it fun so they enjoy coming and look forward to it! We are very fortunate to have him as an instructor for our sons!

My boys have been going to jiu jitsu for more than a year and I can definitely tell a difference with them. They have more respect for others and more energy as well. I would recommend Houston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club to anyone looking to learn how to defend themselves while learning how to be respectful.
