The instructors are amazing at working with the kids, making sure they understand the lessons and techniques. My daughter has learned so much. Professor Quan nurtures a family friendly environment and positive atmosphere. We love Maven! 5 star Academy from Top to Bottom. I enjoy my time here everytime.

I joined with zero experience and was immediately welcomed by everyone. All of the instructors are top notch. I really appreciate that the more experienced members split up and help the beginners. There is also a good family atmosphere here with many members also enrolling their children in age specific classes.

My 8y/o son has been attending Maven Jiu-Jitsu Academy for three months now. The instructors are excellent with the kids. They explain everything that grabs the kids attention. The instructions also makes the kids think about what’s being taught. The skills my son has learned will benefit him for life. He’s motivated and excited to come to class. He has built not only a higher level of self defense but also higher level of self respect and respect to others. I can also see an increase in fitness. I would highly recommend at least looking into Maven Academy.

I joined Maven Jiu Jitsu on April 3rd of this year two days after I relocated from another state. Maven is the third Jiu Jitsu school I have been part of since 2013 due to relocations. As such, I am going to try to compare what I experience at Maven versus what I see as more typical (the other two schools I attended).
Typical – Show up at class and work on a random technique that may or may not related to what you worked on the day before or will work on the next day.
Maven – James Quan (Owner and head instructor) has graduate level degrees in education. Thus, Maven works from a structured

After moving to Texas, I wanted to find my next gym family. I went online and searched for BJJ schools in the area. Out of three results, I chose to inquire at Maven via their website. The owner, and head coach James Quan replied to my inquiry within minutes and I decided to stop by and see the school.
Upon arrival, James came to greet me. He was extremely friendly, and more importantly genuine. I appreciated his teaching style which is detailed and clear.I had been to many BJJ schools before, while your head coach may know the techniques at hand, how it is presented and conveyed to the student

BJJ has been on my list for a long time and I looked at different academies in the area. Was really glad I found Maven Jiu-Jitsu Academy and did the trial with my kids. Professor James Quan and all the instructors are top notch. The culture of the school is genuine and positive with a focus on understanding the ‘why’ behind the techniques. Instruction is broken down into digestible steps while highlighting important details. It’s really a team environment where other students help each other get better as iron sharpens iron. My son and I love training as much as possible and highly recommend

Recently joined this academy. Nicest group of guys/gals of any BJJ gyms I've toured. All age groups from all walks of life, all there to learn, teach, and have a good time with other great people. Mat area is large enough and clean. Professor James is extremely technical and will explain exactly why any movement is done in that manner. About to enroll my kids here as well. My goal is not to eventually submit everyone I roll with, but just to learn, improve, have a great time, and avoid injury (I'm not 21 anymore). If that sounds like your goal, this is probably your home.

This academy is excellent! Great instruction and environment for learning. Professor James and the other instructors and students are all very welcoming, friendly and supportive. If you are interested in BJJ, you have to try this academy. You can't beat the level of instruction and you will be amazed at how nice everyone is.

All of the other reviews you'll find about Maven are spot on. The gym has a culture that is very welcoming to kids and beginners, and the instructors are truly great at teaching effective Jiu Jitsu to every student who steps inside. Professor Quan encourages you to have fun and make mistakes while experimenting with the techniques to find what works, supplying you with the key concepts, details, and training structure along the way that make doing so possible. Whether you're looking into Jiu Jitsu primarily for self-defense training, an interesting way to get in shape, or a place to just have fun

I've been attending this academy for afew months now. Professor James is a master at teaching and communicating new techniques. Everyone at the gym is beyond friendly and they all are willing to help new guys. He holds traditional values and creates a very new-guy friendly place to learn martial arts. Whether you want to exercise, learn jiujitsu, or just get better at self defense, please come and check it out. All you'll see is lots of smiles and sweat. I have nothing but great times with them and I will continue to attend to further my bjj skills. You will not regret it, dont wait another day
