Escuelita del Alma was founded by Dina Flores in 2000 to provide childcare for employees of Las Manitas, the legendary Congress Avenue cafe owned by Dina's partner, Cynthia Perez and Cynthia's sister, Lidia Perez. At the time it was one of the city's only Spanish-immersion preschool programs, and the only full-time downtown childcare center.
During the daycare's early years when 100 children attended Escuelita, their lunches and snacks were prepared at Las Manitas and they learned about art at the La Pena Gallery next door. Every Halloween the children would go Trick or Treating at downtown businesses and City Hall.

Services
Our daycare, after-care and summer camp programs promote language development, kindergarten readiness, and social and emotional learning. Call the office, at 512-474-4702, 10-15 minutes before your arrival to drop-off and pick-up, to ensure that a staff member is at the door to meet you.
We wish for your child to have time to wash hands immediately before walking out of the classroom, and before being brought to the main office area or the building exterior (infant building) to meet you outside the door.When dropping-off, unload your child from your car and bring him/her close to the receiving area for a temperature check.

Our students acquire the Spanish language naturally while they learn and discover the world around them. Activities include interactive reading, alphabet identification, tracing, writing, and language exposure through music. We teach math and science through fun activities to learn about numbers and simple math through multi-sensory centers, art, puzzles, building, gardening, and imaginative play.
We are located at 32nd Street and IH-35, close to the Hancock shopping center and St. David's Medical Center, on the access road heading north on IH-35, just past Stars Cafe and Days Inn. Full and part-time attendance is available, with tuition based on the age of the child and level of planned attendance.
