Austin Play Garden is a play-based preschool committed to providing young children with the best in Early Childhood education. Many philosophies and theorists influence us in Early Childhood. However, the principles behind the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the Project Approach and Vygotsky are most prominent in our planning and curriculum.
Austin Play Garden accepts children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. We offer full and part time schedules for families: 2 days a week, 3 days a week, or 5 days a week. Standard school hours are from 8:15 am -2:30 pm, and optional aftercare from 2:30-5:30 pm.

Sisters and long time educators, Claire Smith and Hannah Rosenbaum, founded Austin Play Garden in 2014. The idea to open a school for the Austin community came from their experiences in child care, public schools and working with families in general. They believe that early childhood is the most important time developmentally in a person's life.
Austin Play Garden strives to promote social, emotional and intellectual growth through a rich environment emphasizing exploration, imagination, interaction, and communication. Our program is purposeful: the materials, curriculum, space, methods, and teacher attention are determined based on the best interest of the children.

The Infant Program is designed to provide a nurturing yet challenging environment to our youngest learners. We believe that all children are unique in their developmental paths and our program reflects that. Through observation of play and responsive care, we encourage children to journey through this stage at their own pace all while building independence.
Students are the guiding force in our school community. Respecting others, the environment, and creating positive relationships are goals that students and teachers are working to maintain everyday. Focusing on modeling of behaviors, communication and appreciating multiple perspectives will aid students in meeting these goals.

We absolutely love the Austin Play Garden! J has been there since he was around 6 months old and now he's 2.5 years. The teachers are so caring and really get to know and love your child. You get a report card of stuff they did that day which is so much fun to read during pickup. The kids are always playing outside which we love. He gets plenty of sun and also time playing with water. They work on plenty of painting or crafting projects and it's so fun to see what he brings home. <3

We love, love, love APG! My daughter has been going there since January and will continue to do so as long as she can.. Claire and her staff are knowledgeable, kind, loving, and provide the warmest of environments for a young child to grow and learn. I'm no fan of preschools that push littles in to doing fake art projects or force them to learn through rote memorization. Austin Play Garden is different; they allow children to learn the best way, through exploration, curiosity, and collaboration.
Additionally, the building is adorable, clean, and loaded with toys and materials that encourage healthy
