Marybeth Cody has devoted her life to the well being of children. With over four decades in the field of early childhood education, she brings a breadth and depth of experience to the position of Director that is unmatched in the city of San Francisco. Marybeth co-founded the Serra Preschool in 2001 and has served as its Director since inception.

Prior to Serra, Marybeth served as Head Teacher at 150 Parker Avenue School, where she was mentored by the late Doris Welch, a pioneer in the field and an instrumental force in the creation of the nursery program at Stanford's Bing School. Before her 25-year term at Parker, Marybeth graduated with honors from U.C. Davis, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development.
Services
The Campbells collaborated with Marybeth Cody, who remains our Director today, to create a unique preschool experience which combines a play-based philosophy with a nurturing environment to encourage a child's natural spiritual curiosity. The Serra Preschool moved to its current location in The Presidio to accommodate the growth in the program.
Serra's park-like setting within The Presidio provides a unique opportunity for our children to learn about the natural world. Surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees, under the circle of red tailed hawks and flights of the local parrot flocks, Serra children delight in the discovery of learning.

Originally a home designed and built for Civil War Officers and their families, our spacious schoolhouse was charmingly restored to allow children to flow freely from inside the school to our lovely outdoor play yard, in rain or shine.
The community is supportive and involved in the school year-round, from a welcoming picnic and lively Halloween party in the Fall to a fundraising auction gala and parent social activities in the Spring. There are abundant opportunities for parent participation and engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
No. Children benefit from the routine of consistent daily attendance in the school program. Daily routine offers a stable and successful experience and an opportunity for deepening curriculum for young children to explore. We provide a healthy variety of organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains, breads, crackers, and cheeses.
Serra children most often begin their journey in our Morning Year 1 program. The following year they transition to our Afternoon Year 2 program and then continue on to our Year 3 (Pre-K) program in either morning or afternoon. With our belief that each child is unique, we work closely with each family to determine the optimal path for their child.
