All services are gender neutral and fluctuate in price based on the length and density of your hair. If its your first time seeing your stylist, or coming to The Hive for a haircut (non dry curly cut), this appointment will allow for a longer consultation and assessment of your hair and its needs. A longer appointment for anyone looking to make a big change to their length or style (non dry curly cut).
Are you new to The Hive? Want to get the ball rolling on a new color? To help us tailor our recommendations, we need you to send us 1-3 photos of your hair in natural lighting with no filters. Images can be sent to Booking@thehivesalon.com. Once your form plus images are received, we'll reach out to you during business hours with options that best suit your needs!
At The Hive Salon we cater to waves, curls, and coils differently than most. We embrace texture and we encourage you to love your hair and do the same. To help you achieve a truly low maintenance haircut that you can work with, we offer separate haircutting services catered to your unique texture. We do not represent any outside company or brand's cutting methods.
All hair color is chemical driven, regardless of words like "organic" and "natural" used in branding. If you have questions or concerns regarding sensitivity or allergies please call 612-781-4483 to book a color consultation. We can perform patch tests for sensitivity or answer in-depth questions related to the ingredients on our hair color.
We are proud to have partnered with Green Circle Salons to ensure that 95% of our waste is recycled or re-purposed. This includes hair, foils, gloves, cling wrap, hair color waste and more! To run this program, an Environmental Stewardship fee of $1.50 is applied to each visit. Our hair color, lightener, and vivids are ammonia and fume free.

I was to be a model for 4B/4C hair and the communication between the staff was terrible. It was arranged with Terra (who was great) but when time came for the appointment in the middle of the morning on a work day I was told that they went with another model because they were waiting for my credit card number. Soooo many things wrong with this. I was not asked for a credit card number. I double checked my email and phone with no appointment confirmation or requests for a credit card number and I actually don't know why they would even need a credit card number prior to my visit. I moved here from Milwaukee and I was worried I wouldn’t find a salon or a stylist that I loved as much as my last. Lucky for me, I found the Hive while looking for women owned and sustainable salons in Minneapolis.
The Hive is fantastic. Super friendly, personable, and confident in their services. I was able to choose a stylist with hair similar to my own which is always a plus. It is sparkling clean and the space has lovely plants and artwork all around. Wow wow wow. I have never had such a positive experience at a hair salon! It has been a long time since I've had my haircut, and Hayley was so patient and offered a LOT of guidance, advice, and expertise on top of giving me a fantastic haircut. She was so knowledgeable and I could tell she was really passionate about educating me about my hair and why the process she was using works so well!
I've never been one to spend a lot of time styling my hair, so she took that into account and worked with me to come up with a quick and easy, low-commitment routine that I'll actually stick with.

This is the first review I’ve ever left on a business but my service was so amazing yesterday I had to give a review! I went in for a haircut with Hayley swan and I can’t recommend her enough! My previous stylist is no longer doing hair and I was in search of a new regular stylist to go to *spoiler* I will now be a regular of Hayley! I’m shy but love the ritual of sitting and talking and building a relationship with my stylist while getting my hair done. Frankie did a fantastic job cutting my hair! She made a plan for what to do with each part of my hair by asking me questions about what I wanted and listened very well. I have short (around chin length) wavy hair and have never had a curly cut before. It does make a difference and brought out the waves/curls - I will definitely go back!

I had my first every curly cut here. As a mixed (biracial) individual with curly hair, styling, caring, and cutting my hair has always been a struggle. To put it in perspective, I used to cry when I would get hair cuts.. The wet hair would make my hair appear deceivingly long, only to spring up WAY shorter after my hair was merely trimmed!! It wasn't until my early twenties that I learned my hair was never supposed to be cut dry in the first place. Yet.. I will still scarred from my past experience to get hair cuts. Well.. Hayley was an absolute dream hair stylist! She listened thoughtfully to the type of style and maintenance routine I was interested in and provided SO much hair care education. In the past, I have felt like other stylists have judged my desire to keep my routine as minimal as possible. Not with Hayley! The Hive is such a great salon! The location is great, lots of food and coffee options. The best part of their location- they have free parking! The salon itself is gorgeous and I love all the hexagonal mirrors and furniture. Lots of plants and lights and I love that they feature local artists. The Hive is great for curly hair, but they have stylists for everyone! I see Holly and she is excellent. I have never had so many compliments on my hair! She always keeps my hair beautiful and healthy. Definitely one of the best salons in the Twin Cities!

Let me begin off with a hopefully unbiased opinion as I don't like giving or seeing reviews that don't entirely encompass the full spectrum of an experience. Bear with me this is going to be long winded but I hope this can help in some way.
I wanted to like this salon. I just moved from out of state and wanted to have a salon that I can come back to and they remember me as a customer. I've been looking for a new salon that specializes in curly hair and Emily at The Hive did an amazing job. She cut my hair to frame my face just right and educated me on how to maintain curly hair. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. I'm mixed race (African-American and Caucasian) so it's been hard for me to find a hair salon/stylist who understands my hair. The you walk in to a light and trendy space full of smiling people, happy music and tea. Great natural light all over, growing plants and happy people.
I had the full hair style, shampoo, hot towel scalp massage and photo session.
What a fun place to get your hair done. They do men and women and offer a very nice variety of hair product that are all natural.
I don't usually go to a salon for my hair since I am a guy and get it cut short but this is my new go to place.

I recently had a dry cut at The Hive for my natural curls. My curly haircuts are usually really expensive and I have to find a salon that specialized in curls, so I typically put them off but twice a year. The products can be a lot to keep up with too - it's never simple enough to style curls. My hair has a tendency to become course and dry, it doesn't grow quickly, and it breaks and snarls often. However, after my cut at The Hive my hair has never felt so fresh and healthy. It has extra bounce. My stylist Emily was personable and she sold me some great product which was super reasonably

I personally had a good experience with Sasha. She did a really cool up do for me, but on the other hand, my mom had a horrible experience and left crying. She had Becca and she did a horrible job on her hair. It did not look good on my mom at all and my mom tried to have her fix and make it more of what she wanted and towards the end Becca "Anything I do you're just not gonna like". so my paid 50 dollars to basically re do half her head. Very bad costumer service and no one should give up on customers and let them leave feeling ugly that's the opposite of what a hair salon

Unfortunately, my haircut was a complete disaster. My layers and face frame were not cut straight and connected. (And from our consultation we made it very clear that we weren't going to cut the length of the shortest piece, which ended up happening.)
I did not feel like I was walking out confidently, but I felt almost more embarrassed afterwards. I felt that the way he had styled it, it might've helped the short term appearance, but coming

Foil bleed, mismatched toning, and took almost 4 hours... Oh my! I feel a bit bad leaving a bad review because everyone was super professional and nice. BUT it is a hair salon and my hair doesn't look so great.
The cut is good. I have stick straight hair and I only needed a blunt cut trimmed up an inch (basically, the easiest cut in the book). Now for the color, oh the color. The ladies working the front desk are extremely friendly. SO friendly. Everyone working there is, actually.
If you want some refreshments when you walk in, there is water, coffee, and tea available. And, being that this is an environmentally-friendly salon, there are no plastic cups, just ceramic mugs and glassware (which I love and think adds a really nice homey feel).

I am new to the NE Area. I have driven past this place every day on my way to/ from work. I needed a hair cut badly, my normal stylist at a different shop was booked full for the next two weeks. I decided to give this place a call. What a mistake.

Before I went in even for my first haircut, I followed their styling tips and what a difference they made to my temperamental curly hair! Then I had my first dry-hair cut which is a must forevermore. The cut was great: flattering to my face shape and tailored exactly for my curls and my very low-maintenance routine. Not only that, but my hair grew out really well with no heavy sections. Plus I didn't have to go home and throw out all my hair products.

I tend to bounce around from salon to salon (stylists, don't hate me) mostly because I love trying new places and feeling out new neighborhoods. This is the first time in many moons that I have come back to the same place twice.
I was welcomed with tea, and sat back to soak in the most adorable, kitschy (in a cute way) salon I have ever been in. Hardwood floors, antique couches, tiny frames all over the wall...adorable. My stylist listened to what I wanted, gave me some helpful ideas, and went to work. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and did not rush my appointment.
