Hair-O-Smith was born 11 years ago from a whole lotta love for hair, and a passion for rock n roll. Always based in NE MPLS, but quickly we gained a name for ourselves as wig stylists, which took us on location to local theaters and national music tours. Our move into our Johnson St. backstage studio is our way of refining not only the salon aesthetics, but your salon experience.

I could have sworn I wrote a review for this place already but apparently not! My bad, cause this place is THE coolest. I mean, who doesn't like sipping a PBR (or La Croix if that's your jam) and listening to rock music while gettin your hair did?
I've been coming to Hair-O-Smith regularly since April 2018, when I decided to do my side shave and having already had my first positive experience the previous July when I did a simple trim and dye to hide those pesky grays for a wedding I was in.

I've never been a huge fan of going in to get my hair cut; not sure why, I've just never really found a place that 'clicked' with me. I cycle through super long hair (we're talking 20"+), and super short hair, which I always just kind of did myself (looking back on it, it wasn't good haha), but after a few years of long hair, I was ready for a big chop again, and decided to try this place for a super-short cut. I'm in love! Kennedy did an AMAZING job, it's the most comfortable I've ever felt in a salon. I'm really excited to keep seeing

I had been going to the same salon in NE Minneapolis for the past five years when my stylist jacked up her prices.
It was time for a change, and boy am I ever glad I went to Hair-O-Smith! First things first- I'm offered a beer when I sit down. After a long day at work, those were the most magical words in the world. The atmosphere is fun and has a great rock and roll vibe.
I go to Steph A. and she has been wonderful! We always have fun while she's doing my hair and she totally understands what I want in a cut (usually before I do!). I've always been a long hair kind of girl but

Hair-O-Smith is a hidden gem! I've been going to Stephanie for about 3 months now and I am overjoyed with the results. so many women ask me where I go and who I see there and I tell them, "Stephanie at Hair-O- Smith - and tell her Kala referred you!" Steph takes her time with you and makes sure you're 100% satisfied with the results before you walk out the door. She's a true professional & lots of fun to chat with!

I really wanted to try a keratin treatment but didn't want to commit to either the price for the full one nor the length of time it would last in case I didn't like it. My hair is kinda half wavy, half frizzy and totally dry. And as I have colored it since going gray at age 8, anything can happen.
Hair-0-smith offers what I haven't seen anywhere else- the opportunity to get essentially a mini keratin treatment- to sample it to see if its for you at WAYYY less than a full price treatment.. I was

I have been going to Stefanie for a few years for extensions and I seriously love them. Now, I'm a pretty low maintenance gal, but nature was not kind to me in the hair department so extensions make me LOVE my hair. Stefanie is able to work her magic to make my hair look good, which is no small feat.
Not only is she able to make me look good, she also offers beverages while doing your hair. I guess you can get a beer if you want, but I have never had a beer. I don't know. I just can't imagine drinking a beer while getting my hair done, but I've seen others with the beer.
