Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu was formed in 2001 and through the power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we have continued to grow, starting an afterschool program in 2008. The staff at Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu is amazing! My son has been involved in the afterschool program for two years and he loves it. They have a great structure that includes karate instruction, physical games, and HOMEWORK.

Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu was formed in 2001 and through the power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we have continued to grow, starting an afterschool program in 2008. The purpose of Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu is to offer discipline by fostering mental and physical enhancement as well as encouraging character development.
Isshin-Ryu ( translated means "one heart way") is a style of Okinawan karate founded by Tatsuo Shimabuku that combines Shorin-ryu karate, Goju-ryu karate, and kobudo. Our Adult Class meets three times a week and is as diverse a group of martial artists as you will find in any dojo. Younger or older, male or female, if you come work out with us, you will find someone in our class similar to you.
Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu offers a summer karate camp for elementary and middle school aged students. Registration is limited, and the participants must agree to attend the entire summer (10 weeks) unless an exception is approved by the program director. Our program offers karate for over an hour each day and participation in active play such as dodge ball, nerf games, frisbee tag, obstacle courses, team building excercises, sword fighting, and more.
What is it to be a Black Belt at our dojo? It takes an average student about 3 and a half years to get black belt in our dojo. Its not easy, and all students promoted here can attest to that. It requires dedication and at times, sacrifice, but I think we would all agree that the person you become is well worth the effort.
The Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame (IHOF) is an international event, held annually to honor and recognize outstanding Isshin-Ryu practitioners from around the world for their contributions to the art of Isshin-Ryu Karate regardless of their various association affiliations or dojo memberships.
In addition, it provides the opportunity for all Isshin-Ryu practitioners to come together in fellowship, exchange knowledge and ideas, begin new friendships and renew old ones, as well as participate in healthy unbiased competition.

If you or your family are interested in learning martial arts then this is a fantastic place to turn to. They offer not only a great environment to train in for both kids and adults, but also a terrific after-school program that is headed up by the best instructors. This is a location that I've found myself coming back to year after year and I don't regret a single moment of it. I cannot recommend Cape Fear Isshin-Ryu enough for anyone who wants to learn and grow with the martial arts world.
