The Animal Clinic was established in 1936, it has been in continuous operations since then and is the oldest veterinary clinic on Galveston Island. The clinics location allows us a clear view of the sand and surf of the Gulf and we believe that this allows us to represent Galveston in the most appropriate way, in a historic house right on the beach.
The clinic was awarded the Texas Heritage Award from the TVMA for the ongoing service to our community and the historic buildings we occupy. These offer a very comfortable and homey environment that our clients love, in addition to exceptional veterinary care. We offer a separate cat-only clinic right next door to our main building, where cats can receive the specialized treatment they deserve.

Services
At the Animal Clinic we realize that our feline patients have special needs and appreciate a more individualized treatment, which is why we offer a separate cat-only clinic. The Cat Clinic is located right next door to our main building. It's the only, feline only practice on the island! Here cats can receive the specialized treatment they deserve in a more peaceful cat friendly environment.
At The Animal Clinic of Galveston we believe that regular checkups and wellness exams are critical to your pet's well-being. These wellness exams give us a chance to evaluate the overall health of your pet while also giving us a baseline for their own unique bodies and tendencies. Not only do these exams keep us up-to-date with your pet's health, they also allow us to detect potential problems before they become serious.
We are proud to provide Galveston and surrounding communities with state-of-the-art veterinary surgical procedures. We believe in utilizing the highest level of medical technology, and our surgeons are experienced and highly trained. We also realize that it can be stressful to have your pet undergo surgery.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any animal. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.
At The Animal Clinic in Galveston, TX we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in a completely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body's organs. In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pet's body that we otherwise could not see.

If you're looking for a trust worthy vet who values your dogs health look no further. Dr. Diestler is the most amazing vet we have ever used. He is kind and patient he answered all of our questions without making us feel rushed and we genuinely feel like his priority is to provide great pet care at a reasonable price. I can't say thank you enough to him and his team for providing a seamless covid compliant vet experience for our Callie today.

AVOID this place if your pet need surgery or a biopsy. I work in a major cancer center where I actively treating cancer patients. I have waited a while to write this to try and not let my emotions run wild. They have no idea what they are doing when it comes to extensive care. I asked for a biopsy for my dog with a lump on her side. They said it was done and all was clear which we were so happy about. A few months later the lump grew and we went back and i asked to see the report from the biopsy, to which they said we didn't do one! So what did I pay for? Then I had them do a biopsy this

I have been very satisfied in this clinic and Dr Festein's care of my dog in the past.....but the last few time I've taken her to get care, usually just routine stuff, she has been very fearful of going with the techs by herself. One visit, she went under the bench in the exam room and was trembling all over from fear. Makes one wonder what type of experience she's had that we are not aware of because we are not allowed to go in with our pet. I expressed this concern with the staff and all they say is 'I'm sorry' ....easy words to say....but not seriously expressed

1 hour and 30 minutes wait in the car in front of the clinic!! At that point they suggested rescheduling when I complained. I would have been just fine rescheduling before I waited that long. Why not just tell me at the beginning that they were running late and have me come back later when they were ready? Like most of their customers I live less than 10 minutes away. No reason to make me wait in the parking lot for so long. Just reschedule at the beginning or have me leave and call me later when they are able to see my dog. In the end I waited 1.5 hours for a 15 minute very expensive vet visit

DOGGY STYLE...
I took my dog there for a prolapsed nictiitating membrane of one of her eyes and got a Nextguard flea treatment. Next month, I tried to order the same flea treatmemt in bulk from Chewy. The Vet DENIED the perscription!!! was OBVIOUSLY done so that I would HAVE to buy it from them where It is MORE EXPENSIVE. Also when I picked up my dog, besides the BILL, no information s to WHAT was done with my dog and what I needed to do was given. I'll be taking my dog elsewhere... someplace that doesn't hold it hostage

May 18, 2020 went here because the vet closest to me (Campeche Cove) was booked. The first difference I noticed was the difference in price for an office visit; $48 (at Campeche) to $65 here. Wow! Wonder why that is?
Surely, it couldn't be the east end of the island vs the west end?
Anyway, since Covid19 is still in action...service is still curbside so, being that this is my first visit, I will not be able to go in with my kitty, Percy and that stresses me out. He will be without me and I won't be able to communicate (in detail) to the doctor ...not ideal. But, with him experiencing

Only place we take and/or board our animals. Period. You won't be disappointed. Favorite story is my wife keeps buying dogs off Craigslist. We have a maltipoo that was losing her hair. Point in a maltipoo is they don't shed. First time in we had an intern which is fine as everyone is a trainee at least once. Some medication but no cure. Second time and we had one of the two "owners". She asks if we're itching too. Yes, we were. Turns out my wife's Craigslist dog came with mange. Easy to fix. We had to apply the same cream. Point isn't the intern

Being new to the island, visited this clinic for our dog's annual vaccinations and checkup. The wait, even with an appointment, is long. The staff are friendly. The tech and vets are nice as well. However, I think their patient load is too much. Our little doggie had a bad reaction to the vaccinations and became ill. When we took her back, we just didn't feel or think they had done everything to try to find out what was wrong. Long story short, we ended up in an Animal Hospital ER a few towns away. They were able to find out what was wrong and get our little girl on the road to health

Our Frenchie got sick on the last day of our vacation. They fit us in last minute and at their closing time!! This is an office that genuinely cares for the pets. We cannot thank you all enough. Bella is at home and doing so much better. They are very affordable & if we lived in Galveston, this would be our vet. Again, thank you all SO much.

6/5/19 I just bumped them up to 4 stars from 2. Actually, this past visit really deserves 5 stars! Thanks, in part, to the person at the appointment desk who listened with empathy to my disappointment, which was noted below previously.
Emily, our tech, was sensitive and very good at her job. Bravo to her; she immediately gained Shelby's trust! Dr. H, the vet, was also in pace with the others there. Thank you all for a terrific level of service!!!! I gave you 4 stars, because I think empathy and communication might get derailed sometimes.

All was well on the first visit to go in and change veterinarians from Houston. I use a Pet prescription website that The Animal Clinic would not honor. Since I use a Rx they do not carry, the clinic said I could pick up a written prescription. My husband went in to pick it up and unbeknownst to me, they had written 2 other prescriptions the dogs are on. The charge for 3 Rx came to $23.40, more than my savings to begin with. This information was never shared. I said, forget it, I'll order online from your pharmacy. I went to order another prescription from their store and it was not

Wonderful place, friendly staff and Dr Fistien is amazing! My mom's cat was old and passing Dr Fistien came all the way out to the west end to my moms house to put him down. Wow that is almost unheard of these days. She took her time so that we could all say our goodbyes. No words can express how touching this was. They are very inexpensive and don't try to sell you on things you don't need. If you have a fur baby you definitely want to bring them here!

We have been taking our pups to this clinic for 5 years and have been so thankful for their care. Sometimes we had to wait awhile but understand that as an animal clinic, there are emergencies and animals are well-loved there. We will miss them as them move away but thanks to all of the staff there for loving Ranger and Roscoe.

The front office staff was not friendly or helpful. My appointment was running behind and when I asked Chase about this, he told me they were not running behind but that they also see walk-in patients. Not sure why I needed to make an appointment.
The waiting room is crowded with so many dogs on retractable leashes and owners that don't understand or respect other patients. The front staff never once told the people waiting that they were running 60 minutes behind schedule. To make an appointment you have to leave your phone number so you would assume as good customer service they would

We have two Labrador Retrievers and used to make the trip to Houston because we could not find suitable vets on the island; that is until we were fortunate to find Dr. Fistein and the Animal Clinic. She is courteous, knowledgeable and very respectful of clients wishes.
We took our 7 six week old puppies in today and Dr. Fistein spent an inordinate amount of time with each one to insure their good health status. We have a tremendous amount of respect for Dr. Fistein and, once again, feel very fortunate to have found her.
