Building Blocks Development
After 21 years of loyalty and dedication to the children and families of Building Blocks, Mary Rousseau, Educational Coordinator, is retiring and moving on to the next chapter of her life. The administration and staff would like to take this opportunity to thank Mary for all she has done to enrich the lives of all members of the Building Blocks family for more than two decades!

We wish her much good health and happiness as she begins to create new exciting memories during the next stage of her life! Parents that would like to voice their concern may do so by using the following email address to write their satisfaction or dissatisfaction regarding the new mandate.
Services
Building Blocks Developmental Preschool has long been an early intervention and preschool program dedicated to educational excellence and committed to meeting the developmental needs of all young children. It is the philosophy of our program that all children possess the ability to learn and all children possess special qualities unique to themselves.
Building Blocks Developmental Preschool offers a comprehensive treatment plan for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) through age five. There are many treatments available for children diagnosed as having an autism spectrum disorder.

Extensive research has shown empirically that children who receive early and intensive education using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) have significant gains in cognitive, communication, and social relatedness skills.ABA uses reinforcement to shape behavior and to help children learn new skills.
Building Blocks Developmental Preschool offers integrated preschool and nursery school classes for three, four and five year olds. All classes are taught by New York State certified teachers experienced in early childhood development. Integrated preschool classes are comprised of 12 children taught by one teacher who is aided by two assistants.
Building Blocks Developmental Preschool is a New York State approved provider of special education preschool services, serving Suffolk County for over 35 years. We boast a staff of professionals and administrators who have many years of experience in early childhood special education. Half-day classes - These classes are comprised of 12 children taught by one teacher who is aided by two assistants.
Building Blocks Developmental Preschool not only offers center-based programs but also provides Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) Services throughout the community. Provision of these services is approved through a child's respective school district for a specified number of hours determined at your child's Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meeting.

This is a letter I wrote to the school two years ago - there isn't enough amazing things to say about Donna and the amazing staff at this school!
Dear Donna, 8/10/18
It is with a grateful heart that I write this letter to you today with regards to our daughter, Emily. Emily started her Early Intervention journey at a mere 18 months old in January 2014, given a diagnosis that I didn’t even know that complete extent of at the time. When given the list of agencies I could use for evaluation and services, I picked Building Blocks because I had a family friend (Tracy) that worked there. I knew it

We started our journey 3 years ago at this amazing school.
When our son was first diagnosed on the spectrum it was a VERY confusing and an isolating time for us. We had no idea where to start, what to do, or how to help him. We felt completely helpless. On our very first tour with Building Blocks, we walked in completely unsure. We walked out knowing this was going to be the best place for him to grow. In the 3 years we have been there we haven't been disappointed with our decision once!
This school is staffed with the most amazing individuals. No one ever does not have the time to speak

Building Blocks is such an amazing school! We have sent 2 children there already, and about to send our third. They are a welcoming, capable and safe environment, where kids learn so much at such a young age. Our oldest child has attention and speech issues, and they were at the forefront of finding out what he needed and providing the services which helped him catch up. They also set him up for future services by attending the necessary meetings with our school district for Kindergarten; making sure they were over-prepared, and provided their recommendations. Our school district told us that they

My daughter has been going to childcare here for almost 2 years now. The teachers in the school are wonderful and take the time to speak with each parent individually about their kids. The classes all have aids to help watch and teach the kids. The kids practice and perform plays on practically every holiday. Which they perform for the parents. The staff puts a lot of effort into organizing these events and it shows I would highly recommend this school to any parent looking to put their kids in pre-kindergarten or child care.

I absolutely love Building Blocks. I am not even sure where to begin but let me first say that I am stunned to read the review from 03/15/2018. I have been a parent of the school for two years now and never once have I experienced anything as described in that review. I know there are always two sides to every story, but my story with Building Blocks is a beautiful one. I have received many needed services for my children but I have also received loving teachers that actually care for my children. Having my kids in this school has been a blessing and I am grateful to all of the therapists

If I could give this school negative stars I would. This school should be shut down and all the people running the school should never be able to work with children of any kind ever again. I have two special needs sons, they both attended building blocks. My oldest son Christopher came home on four different occasions with signs that someone was either abusing him or being neglectful of him. I confronted the school several times and then after no results and taking him to the Dr and the Dr telling us to call CPS and special victims, we did and the school retaliated by kicking my son out (two months

So Ms. Christy and the rest of the building blocks staff said my high functioning ASD daughter should be mainstreamed. One teacher and 20+ kids. Just took her to a birthday party with 22 kids. She melted down. Couldn’t handle that situation. Ms. Christy is brilliant (sarcasm filled). So if you want shotty education and a staff who is more interested in pleasing school districts and not the needs of your child - Building Blocks is the place for you.

They care more about money and enrollment then they actually care about teaching. Crowds of people are constantly in the hallways coming in and out. They often don't know where my child is. They have security-but it's just for show. They maximize enrollment by having staggered start times so children are arriving every 2.5 hours for nursery and both at 830 and 1130 for preschool. Which has students, parents and teachers always in the halls coming and going. You will recieve probably 8 fundraisers a year and the week before every break is movie and party time. The teachers are out taking the PTO

There is not enough room to say all that Building Blocks has done for my family. I have two children, my oldest, typically developing who was at Building Blocks through Universal Pre-K and my youngest who received services there first through early intervention and now through my school district. I have seen every inch of this amazing school, both physically and academically. We were welcomed into a family when began there and though they prepared my son's very well to venture to kindergarten, I am going to feel a great sense of loss when we leave. I never doubted for a moment that my
